For those of you who don't remember, the story goes that Emperor Commodus loved gladiator battles, to the point where he wanted to participate as a gladiator himself. At the same time, he didn't want to get hurt, so he set up matches where he fought against handicapped gladiators armed only with sponges. The only one of these gladiators who was recorded as actually having hit Commodus with a sponge was one Flexius Nandellion.

I just wanted to find out more information about the context of the situation. Did the other gladiators try and fail to hit Commodus with their sponges? Or did they not want to risk angering him, so they just ran around the arena trying to avoid getting slaughtered, and ol' Flexius was the only one with the balls to just say FUCK IT! And whip a sponge at the emperor's face?

I bet they did not even give him a fresh sponge. Probably the concubines orifice cleaners, because they were not of high virtue and honor and their ass rags were not considered a real thing!

Wasn't it in an old Wikipedia article? Maybe it's there in the history of the Commodus article.

I didn't have my own board. It's possible that at one time I tried to make one just to test something out, but I couldn't figure it out and gave up. So it's impressive if you really did find the aborted fetus of that board. In all likelihood though, what you actually came across was my subforum at the Matthew Outland run TransFTU.
