The Walking Dead is one of the most depressing comic books I've ever read.

Michael, I've read like 8 chapters of the Walking Dead and it's really awful. I was just not going to tell you but this comic inspires in me so much spite for the author that I have to talk about it.

The art is kind of gay looking but I could honestly overlook that since I read tons of shittily drawn manga, anyway. But the dialogue is god awful and the storyline is just recycling a bunch of zombie movie cliches. The characters are bland as shit and I feel so much hate for them just by looking at their stupid faces and reading their gay talk. All the plot twists so far have been pretty predictable except for the "I'm pregnant" one which made me nearly dropkick my computer in disgust.

It's like Welcome to the NHK! in that all the characters are constantly getting shit on except all the characters are extremely generic and unlikable and it's terribly written.

The dialogue is the only thing I can maybe forgive since all comic book dialogue is shitty, overly talky and sentimental without anything interesting being said.

Oh man. I liked it a ton!

I'm not going to defend it and say it's original in any way (I won't dare to say it's an homage to zombie films, because that defense is always a cop-out), because it isn't. Everything in it is kind of hackneyed; I won't deny that. But I don't think it was the author's goal to TOTALLY REDEFINE the whole zombie thing. From everything I've read, he wanted to really explore the long-term effects of a ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE (on both the people and the world in general).

Still, with all of that being said, I don't really hate the setting, characters, or even a lot of the plot twists. I think Rick is interesting, and a lot of the stuff that happens at the prison later on is pretty cool.

Actually, the Jojo characters are pretty hideous looking. It's one of the few manga that's the exception to that rule!

Oh, when you're reading The Walking Dead and you're trying to guess what's going to happen, just think of the absolute worst scenario and pick that. You'll be right most of the time with that strategy.
