Cavestory was okay, but nothing to come all over your face about. The whole point of free games or indie games is not to provide subpar mainstream games, but something that mainstream games are not providing.
The only examples I can think of is roguelike games. I mean, ADOM and Dungeon Crawl are both games that are much more complex than mainstream RPGs. |

You should probably link to the games you're talking about so we can play them. |

There are a lot of good Arkanoid indie games, and Tower Defense games, for that matter. |

The Battle for Wesnoth is a pretty decent TBS wargame. |

I'm not very comfortable with recommending ADOM or Dungeon Crawl, because its very difficult to get into, understand, and just get used to the whole concept.
The only people who played ADOM extensively are Theldorrin and ALDP (and myself, of course). I think Mike, Psaturn, and Rice also played a bit, but I am not very sure. |

I'm willing to get you in ADOM, if you are willing to put in the effort, but that means I have to play it again, and havent played it two or so years. Although, I did play Dungeon Crawl at work a while back. |

The style of game is very engrossing, because it's very complex but you don't have to be familiar with everything in order to do ok. |

I'll give it a shot. Games with huge learning curves are kind of preferred. |

Reading those threads make me want to play it again. I do wish Thomas the fag would update though. |

I can't view that because you disallow unregistered users.
Anyway, I failed because console programming is really hard nowadays. |

Rice played ADOM a lot.
Servbot, my AIM name is a character in ADOM who I've never actually battled! |

I just started a random game and randomly chose a character (I got a Halfling Barbarian), and I went to the same cave, and the first item I got is a "fragile eternium two-handed sword (+18, 6d5+1" |
