I'm sorry, shouldn't the title of this thread be Bored Lame? |

I know Peter is in love with Apples to Apples.
I really like some of the more complicated games. Like the stuff made by Avalon Hill, or the German flavoured stuff (like Settlers of Cataan, except not Settlers of Cataan because that game sucks).
Normal games are pretty fun too, provided they don't have too much luck. |

I played a game of Risk not too long ago with a bunch of black guys that rolled the dice by bouncing it off the wall like it was a craps game.
Suffice to say, I got my ass kicked! |

The worst thing about Risk is that people inflate the strategy in the game to make it seem like their victory isn't 90% determined by their dice rolls. The game can be very violent, too.
Now Diplomacy, that's a game of skill! |

It's important to figure out which territories to grab. Every guy that tries to capture Asia gets rocked so hard. |

Getting involved in a land war in Asia is one of the classic blunders. |

I enjoy Go and Clue.
HeroQuest was pretty good, but all the people I found to play were idiots who wanted to split up instead of working as a party, so I had to keep redesigning the first dungeon. |

I like to focus all my units in Austraila and work my way through Asia to North America. |

HeroQuest was so awesome.
I was the Elf, and I had the Earth spells. Which meant that at an appropriate time I always used the passwall spell or whatever it was to go through one of the walls and get the really good treasure.
My guy had Borin's Armour and that Amulet of Thought or whatever that gave one extra mind point. |

Australia is good depending on how many people are playing. You can be hampered if you only have Australia and have to pass through Asia to take another continent.
South America is also good, because it allows you to go after North America, which is very valuable and easy to defend, or Africa, which is not as good, but possibly less contentious. |

The Elves/Wizards in my group rarely used the walk through walls spell because they would have been in deep shit if the room they walked into turned out to be SOLID ROCK.
I don't know why I never got around to buying Risk. |

I should list the boardgames I really enjoy.
Go
Scrabble
Boggle (unfortunately there's no one to play in this, since my high school cadre of players is all scattered, and I generally do as well as everyone else combined)
Risk
Diplomacy
Ideology
A Game of Thrones
Illuminati (technically a card game, but not a CCG or a generic card deck game, so I'm including it)
Pictionary (I've had renewed interest in this, lately)
Trivial Pursuit
HeroQuest
Some older games that were fun, but I probably wouldn't push to play anymore:
DragonStrike
Balderdash
Scattergories
Monopoly |

Trivia Pursuit is a game I've always hated because the questions, no matter which version you play, are fucking hard. |

I liked the Dragonstrike video.
Theldorrin, you should try Twilight Imperium! It's stupidly complex but fun, and there's a lot of factions to choose from. |

Monopoly is decent if you auction off properties players land on but don't want to buy themselves so the game doesn't take all day to play.
I could usually talk my opponent into giving me their property instead of paying huge rent fees, which of course resulted in my owning 2/3 to 3/4 of the board and yeah. |
