Did anyone play the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game for the NES? That game was fucking impossible! I think I only beat the dam level once ever.
Then again, I was like 6 or 7. |

Yes, that post in its entirety is true to me, although I was only four. |

Games like the original TMNT were really difficult to me because there was no indication of what you were supposed to do and all the levels looked nearly identical so it's impossible to tell if you're even making any progress. |

I was playing NES TMNT with Derrick when a terrible earthquake STRUCK.
We ran outside.
When we came back in the house, the TV was lying face down where I had been sitting!
Anyway, I will always associate that game with the earthquake and the HARROWING DAYS that followed.
I beat it though, eventually. |

That's the reason I had to PUSH MYSELF to beat it (and yes that game was fucking hard). |

I don't think it was as hard as something like Double Dragon.
It just happened to be pretty long. |

Haha, Double Dragon.
Psssssssh.
Granted the MAGIC ELBOW couldn't take you all the way through the NES version with nary a scratch, so you had some work to do, but it was no Ghosts n' Goblins. |

Everyone knows that Ghosts n' Goblins is hard, though. That's basically universally agreed upon.
I just think people say that TMNT is harder than it is. As NES games go, it's fairly easy. Of course, most NES games are very difficult. |

I haven't played NES Double Dragon in literally like 20 years, but I'm going to assume that the part of my memory saying "it wasn't THAT hard" is correct. |

GAWD. I wasn't picking a game that was tremendously difficult. I was just picking a game that was comparatively more difficult than TMNT and much shorter in length. |

I'll tell you what wasn't that hard, Mike Tyson's Punch Out, until you got to Mike Tyson himself, at which point it suddenly became almost impossible.
I beat him but Emerson flatly refuses to believe that I was ever able to do it. |

I think what I wanted to say about TMNT is that the difficulty exists in the same way that Final Fantasy was difficult. Ie. you didn't know where you were going and that could make it all much harder (particularly the dam, which is pretty hard if you don't know what you're doing). Whereas once you beat it, it's not that difficult to beat again.
Whereas things like Ninja Gaiden or whatever are instrinsicly difficult, and reading a walkthrough, for example, won't really help you beat it.
I always struggled on Bald Bull, but I didn't really play it much, and that makes it instantly more difficult. |
