Is anyone aware of any band or artist that does something a bit experimental or unique with their music? That shit was everywhere back in the 60s of course, but I dont want to be one of those assholes who always talks about how creative the 60s where and shit.
For comparison, think of bands like "The Residents" and "Frank Zappa", but I'm obviously looking for new bands, hopefully post-2000.
The newest ones I know are "The Music Tapes" and I guess, "The Flaming Lips" might count, but thats because I cant think of any other.
"Radiohead" and "Mars Volta" doesn't count, just in case you thought of it. |

This thread can also be referred to as "Chris Psaro & The Punk Fusions" and the rest of us can giggle at him like snobs! |

The Flaming Lips work although all their interesting stuff is pre-2000.
What have you heard by Ween?
I see no reason why "Modest Mouse" wouldn't be ruled out like Radiohead and the Mars Volta (YOU DON'T WANT MAGIC JUAN TO POST IN THIS THREAD AT ALL), but they've got some good songs. |

MADali, what sorts of things have you listened to 70s-90s? I realize that's an extremely broad question, but what have you heard in terms of punk rawk and post-rawk and shit?
How many Bad Company albums have you listened to? |

70-90s is mainly the 70s psychedelic bands, plus popular bands (such as Metallica) and random stuff here and there.
I've listened to Bad Company's Bad Company, and I cant say it made me want more.
I have listened to Modest Mouse, but they dont do that much experimentation. The best example is The Music Tape's 1st Imaginary Symphony for Nomad
The description basically mentions what I'm looking for.
The example of "The Flaming Lips" was mainly about how they once put a tape recorder in every car in the parking lot, pressed record, and played their song in the parking lot, and then used the tapes to give it a parking lot sound.
And their 4 cd album, where you have to put each one in a different stereo, and play it at the same time, which I havent listened to, but I like knowing it exists. |

No.
I like them a lot because they are able to incorporate punk/noise/whatever influences without going completely overboard.
I'll upload a song later tonight.
I don't know if you've heard of a band called Dungen, but they're a pretty good psych group. |
