Man, around February I was starting to get pretty decent at Mahjong because I played it like 15 hours a week I actually made 13 dollars profit off of those cheap ass games!

But yeah, once spring semester came around I basically said fuck it and now I suck.

Why do I never see the original (Japanese) name? I've never seen anything except the English translation. Is that just something that was grandfathered in from decades ago?

No. It's Japanese. Go and Igo are transliterations of the Japanese.

But since all of the interesting people had been eliminated earlier nobody really cared about the final outcome of the tourney.
