Who here uses webmail for their (primary) email account?
And if you use other email accounts for more than registering at places and whatnot then I guess mention that, too. |

This is kind of a trick question, because Gmail is hybrid POP/web-based.
If I'm home, I download it to Thunderbird. If I'm away, I go to the site. |

I don't really know how you can use webmail and POP simultaneously.
Does it not remove your messages when you download them at home?
And what about all of the ones that you read via webmail before? Are they not copied locally? |

How can you not know how this works?
For POP, it downloads all of the POP mail that has arrived since the last time I checked my POP mail.
The web-based copy is completely separate, as if there is no POP downloading going on. Everything comes through, messages I haven't read on the web are marked unread, etc.
When I send an outgoing message through the web, it goes as far as to SEND A COPY OF IT to me the next time I connect through POP. So then I can archive that in Thunderbird if I want to.
Conversely, if I send a message out through Thunderbird (using Gmail's SMTP), the message gets saved on the web-side Sent box too.
It's actually pretty amazing and I'm very impressed! |

It seems strange that they wouldn't use IMAP, when it's designed for that sort of thing.
I'm not familiar with how POP works with GMail because they've added hacks so that it doesn't work like POP normally does. |

I would never live in a world where I don't have all of my email stored locally.
I guess a lot of that is because my email goes back to 1996 and I refer to it a lot and I want all of my email in one manageable place. Plus, I don't want to ever be in a situation of relying on an Internet connection to do mail-related things. |

Why is this thread in the Orgy forum?
I realize that it's a fine line, but this is definitely one of the least ambiguous situations. |

I use hotmail, but no one ever emails me. I think emails have pretty much gone out of style for social reasons.
However, at work, I send and receive like a billion emails per day, and its not web mail. |

None of the youngs folks I see ever have anything in their email except spam and email forwards.
What they do is just send messages from messengers, because now they all have options (except AIM i think) of sending offline messages. |

I'm pretty protective of her from the LIKES OF YOU because I know you'll probably say something to hurt her feelings. |

I'd be very uncomfortable if my sister had any interactions with any FTU members. |

That should go in the annoying expression thread, especially when someone repeats what they said again. |
