Movie Question |
|
|
Let's say you are watching a movie and you take a certain interpretation from it. Then you watch a deleted scene from it that goes against your interpretation, should you change your mind about the movie or just ignore the scene?
Are the only things that should be taken into account the ones that made it to the final product?
Like if you think a character had died, but then they are shown to be alive in a deleted scene, or something like that. _________________ Said the Captain PUNisher. |

I think I'd take the movie for what it is without the deleted scenes. The director might have felt the deleted scene was pushing the movie in a direction he didn't want it to go and so he deleted it. |

If you took deleted scenes as part of canon, then Clerks 2 would be IMPOSSIBLE! |

I wish they hadn't deleted that scene where Dante is killed. |

I include the deleted scene, because I think that they cut most of them for time moreso than pacing, no matter what they claim to the contrary. |

Okay, yeah, that was my opinion.
Of course, does that mean a movie and it's director's cut should be treated as too completely separate things? Probably. _________________ Said the Captain PUNisher. |

Well what about entirely alternate endings? Obviously those weren't cut for time. |

Alternate scenes are different, of course.
I consider anything that couldn't fit in with the movie, logically speaking, to be an alternate scene. Even if it doesn't outright replace another scene. |

There's also the whole thing with test audiences and how they react to certain endings and whatnot.

If a scene is deleted, regardless of whether the director wanted it in, I will not consider it as canon. |

I don't watch extended editions of movies because they are often a cheap shill don't really add anything to a movie, but I was so few movies already. |

It depends on the movie. Donnie Darko's deleted scenes clearly provide insight into the plot, and several of them should never have been cut in the first place. Most deleted scenes however, are frivolous and can be completely disregarded. |
