I read a poem by him that was supposed to savage the flagwaving jingoists who represent a large portion of our population these days when I was a senior in high school, and as much as I dug anything that made fun of those assholes, I couldn't stand how weak and lacking in subtlety the poem was. It was unnerving seeing something that I could have written in 10th grade being lauded by a bunch of sniveling post modern faggots.

I'm trying to memorize one poem a day. Yesterday I memorized that poem about a heart (I guess I should memorize the title, too), and today I memorized another poem I can't remember the name of, by Matthew Arnold.

Allen Ginsberg's really long poem about his mom having cancer is pretty neat. I also like The Wasteland.

I feel like I could gain a greater appreciation for poetry, but every time someone's really tried to turn me onto it, they've tried to turn me onto it using either complete faggy garbage or mediocre Emily Dickinson stuff, so I don't know.
