If life is as prevalent as it seems like it should be, and if intelligence is as prevalent as it seems like it should be, and if other intelligent civilizations have thousands or millions of years head start on us, their existence should be extremely obvious. |

Dude space is like pretty big I mean we could never "bump" into another life form forever. I mean how obvious could it be if they live 1,000,000 light years away. |

Except that you have no actual frame of reference, Peter. It's quite possible that things we consider to be natural phenomenon are actually brought about by intelligent agents.
Also what MADali said. |

Well, even if there were a hundred civilizations like ours in the galaxy I doubt we would have found any of them by now, but if there WERE a hundred civilizations like ours then there ought to be at least one that's significantly advanced beyond ours, and that one should be hard to miss. |

Anyway, that planet is 20 light years away. That means to get there would require no less than 200 years of constant exposure to cosmic rays, which would kill any human.
Space is so awesomely deadly. |

Why is it you think that a super advanced civilization would be obvious?
For all you know, the current circumstances of the solar system are a direct result of an intelligent agent. |

If you accept the possibility of otherworldly being(s) with enough power to do things like shape solar systems, then you're definitely bi-curious. |

It's possible to acknowledge humanity has very little frame of reference in the workings of the universe without concluding every college and university should have Paranormal Studies and Intro to Ghostbusting |

Hey Big Fagot, I am going to handle your concerns with the Socratic method.
What if there WERE aliens, from a number of advanced civilizations, and what if their existence HAD been made clear to people in positions of power (and thousands of everyday people as well), and it had further been discovered that these aliens had plans involving humanity?
What would you, a person in this position, do with this information and the ability to control this information, knowing the massive cognitive dissonance and general havoc it would cause on the planet's societies and institutions (especially [Western] religion)?
You'd probably keep as tight a lid on it as you possibly could, wouldn't you! |

Socrates was fond of making helmets out of bronze foil to protect himself from Hermes's mind control beams |

It's pretty convenient that the most basic element of conspiracy theory is that the only people on the planet who would be willing to spread the truth are also the only people not privy to it.
But I guess you can thank the aliens for that! |
