The two fan Space Quest games I played were very good. I wish that whole community had survived, but I haven't seen anything new in a while.

Mario Sunshine was so fucking easy. Of course a big reason it's easier than Mario 64 is because the camera isn't worthless shit.

I agree with you Triple Life, but a lot of the games that destroyed me when I was younger re pretty fucking easy to beat now (I've crushed all the Megaman games multiple times and Legend of Zelda is a joke).

I'm sorry Jon, but I can't think of many DOS games. A lot of the ones I played wouldn't be very good now like Mechwarrior 2 Mercenaries, and Space Hulk wasn't that great of a game when I played it. I guess there's always X-Com, and its inferior sequel Terror from the Deep which really isn't as bad as a lot of people say (it's just so fucking hard).

I consider it to be the same game, because the changes weren't significant.

There are a lot of good economics sims and whatnot, but I don't think anyone but me plays them.

I'm going to make this list ongoing

Fighter
OMF 2097 (I think it was released as Freeware, and they tried to take it back after the fact)

Puzzle
Lemmings 2: The Tribes
Heaven & Earth

RPG
Darklands (takes place over medieval Europe)

Adventure
Laura Bow: The Dagger of Amon Ra (it's very different than the other Sierra adventures because it's a mystery)
Neuromancer (this needs to me mentioned twice)

Misc
Tie Fighter
X-Wing
And all of the add-ons and expansion packs.

Any Monkey Island game (though the best, 3, is Windows).

Tie Fighter is superior to X-Wing.

X-Wing verse Tie Fighter on the other hand is shit.

I was always partial to Day of the Tentacle and Maniac Mansion in terms of Adventure games.

Maniac Mansion is ridiculously sophisticated.

Maniac Mansion is king because of the incredible number of options it provides the player for an adventure game. It's biggest issue is that you have to take the boyfriend, and his only real function is to sit in the dungeon and free other characters if they get caught.

Day of the Tentacle is an inferior game, but it's still very good (it's mainly inferior because the multiple paths were removed as was the group selection, and the only returning character was the nerd). It's essentially Sam and Max where it's easier to figure out what to do next.

The surfer character is also useless. I always took Bernard, because he was so smart and could solve a variety of the puzzles.

One of the endings involves the surfer character if I remember right. You need him to fix the phone and a couple of things involve the use of it (I believe you can call and order something as a distraction, and you can call the cops if you do some other things I think).

Bernard and the writer girl clearly provide the most options. I really need to play through this game again. I've actually forgotten what a lot of the characters can do (like the red head in the dress).

Maniac Mansion was a computer game also? And had a sequel?

Day of the Tentacle was good, but it lacked the freedom of Maniac Mansion.

I've never played one of those games where you type shit into a prompt because I can't handle the stress of having to get the syntax and spelling and capitalization and punctuation exactly right.
