Old DOS Games Worth Playing Now **DEFINITIVE THREAD** |
|
|
Alright so check this shit out, this is an extension of the other old games thread, only just for Dos games. The big thing this thread will do for other people is give them idea's on what the hell they can play thats good. The thing about old games as Im sure you know is that not everything holds up well over time. Action games, Sports and some other Genre's dont hold up at all, where as Rpg's, Adventure games, etc. Hold up just fine.
Make a List, seprated by Genre, of all the old DOS games you've played that were great, add links if you want, comments, or whatever. See my List for example. Everyone try and participate.
Adventure Games
Beneath A Steel Sky (Full Version)
DreamWeb
Leisure Suit Larry 1 VGA (Serrea's Remake of the Orginal)
Leisure Suit Larry 5
Blood Net
Death Gate
Rise of the Dragon (I played Sega CD version, but its all good)
Snatcher (I reccomend the Sega CD version though)
Rpg's
Betrayal at Krondor (Havent got to far into this yet, but it's gold) |

I'm glad you're coming to terms with your weight problem, but you don't need to degrade yourself like that. |

Someone should make a thread titled "Old DOS Games That Are Actually Playable on Modern Computers."
I tried to re-experience some of the Space Quest games a while back, and the magic was kind of ruined after lightly tapping an arrow key and suddenly finding myself three screens over and toppling off a cliff.
And that was after using a utility to slow my CPU down about 100 times. |

Dosbox is kind of shitty, but it normally does the job. |

While I sympathize with your concern, it would be hard for me to agree we need another thread recommending old games that are still fun. |

DOSBox is the solution to that. CPU slowdown utilities are garbage. |

The Newest version of DosBox 0.70, coupled with Dosbox Game launcher is a huge improvment over the previous versions.
Everyone start listing games. |

Cheating in games was entertaining when I was a lot younger and really sucked at video games. It was nice to be able to see the endings to games finally, but as I've gotten older I don't really see the point. There are some exceptions like the money making glitch in Saga Frontier which is a necessity more than anything, and the Twisted Metal series which I don't have the patience to try and beat so I just get all the endings whenever I get tired of dying. |

Sometimes while I'm falling asleep at night I'll think about different ways I could cheat in ADOM. |

I prefer games that are so difficult they force you to cheat. Because cheating and anti-cheating countermeasures add an entirely new layer to the game experience. |

There's no point to cheating in most games now because they're all easier than fucking Mario Bros., which was basically impossible. |

In the olden days they had to make games hard, because they were short, and you were supposed to have to try and fail for several months until finally beating the game, and that's how you'd get your money's worth. But now that every god damn game takes several days to beat, they're easy as long as you spend enough time playing through it.
That's why I like Mario Sunshine and Elite Beat Agents. No walkthrough can save you from some of that shit. |
