I've been concentrating on the Book of Job since it's pretty obviously the best book of the Bible. Good shit bros. |

I'm reading a verse translation by Stephen Mitchell but I'm very curious to read the newer ones by Robert Alter and Raymond Scheindlin. Stephen Mitchell leaves stuff out and moves other stuff around so that, for example, a speech from Zophar the Namathite closes the third round (!) and Elihu as well as the Poem to Wisdom are missing entirely. |

Why is there light for the wretched,
life for the bitter-hearted,
who long for death, who seek it
as if it were buried treasure,
who smile when they reach the graveyard
and laugh as their pit is dug? |

I'm not sure what I want to read after I'm satisfied with the Book of Job. I mean to read Ezekiel and Isaiah eventually, but they're so long and boring!!! Maybe I'll just read Revelation a bunch.
I don't know if the Catholic church was actively suppressing the printing and distribution of the Bible for all the years before the Reformation, but they deserve a lot of credit if they were. It's a fucking mess! |

Another holy artifact in the town [of Al-Shaykh Saad] is the "Rock of Job," known in local folklore as the place where he sat when he was afflicted with the disease.[22] |
