I think I lost all my GameCube controllers or they got destroyed during drunken Mario Kart or something. I bought a neat, shiny Platinum one for the release of Brawl and I have no clue where that went.

I'll probably just pick up a Pro Controller as I don't think there's anything inherent in the GameCube controller I need to play Smash.

No, the Pro Controller is garbage for Smash. If the right analog stick and the face buttons were switched it might be OK. Plus there's the whole having to plug it into a Wiimote problem. So many precious batteries. In conclusion, the Gamecube controller is the pinnacle of game pad design and this is the best possible decision they could have made.

I think you're thinking of the Wii Classic Controller which does require you to plug into a Wii Remote. I think the Pro just connects straight to the system (wirelessly).

Of course, unless they release new GameCube controllers (they might) that's the best option unless I want to spend $100 for a GameCube controller on Amazon and whatever that GameCube adapter costs.

Wow, I didn't even know they made a less shitty version of the classic controller for the Wii U. It still looks absolutely shitty, though. Nice to know they have entirely no faith in their newfangled control schemes.

An optimist would say that the adapter will be part of a bundle with those Smash Bros. branded Gamecube controllers they showed off. If that's not the case then Nintendo is a total c-stick tease.

Also, Wavebirds are $100 on Amazon, regular controllers are dirt cheap. The used ones probably even come with dirt.

Well, they are selling new GameCube controllers for $30. The game + adapter + a controller is $100 so I guess this is moot.

Also Palutena and Mii are characters. Woo.

I guess that means that leaked newcomer list is a little more true. I think that just leaves:

And maybe somebody else I forgot. There's also rumors that character DLC is planned.
