I don't get it!

I mean, not necessarily the motivation behind it on the page's end, because I'm sure there's a strategy, what I can't fathom is the mind of a person who would actually bother commenting.

What makes a person see that and actually be compelled to type "Apple!", or whatever shit, into some endless stream of comments that nobody will ever read?

This is worse than old people sending each other Snopes-debunked bullshit email forwards. At least they have baby boomer obliviousness as a defense.

Yes. Donkey Kong players invented that word and it's specific to the game. Nobody else in the world has ever used the word outlier before, or even heard it.

And if you use the term when talking about Donkey Kong (why else would anyone ever use it?), and some pleb overhears you, they're usually all like, "out...lier??? What is THAT??"

And I just say, "it's an advanced Donkey Kong concept. You wouldn't understand."

The weird thing is, I've started to see it popping up more and more outside of Donkey Kong discussions. It's like people are saying, "you know, that word would be pretty good to describe something that falls outside of the normal data range." I even saw some statistics asshole saying it!

I was like, "hey, get your own words for things, jerks! That's for Donkey Kong!"

Actually, you're now the second confirmed case of a person who just couldn't bring themselves to give me the benefit of the doubt that what I meant wasn't to explain the concept of an "outlier" but to explain what "outlier" means in the context of Donkey Kong.

After the first I said "oh come on," but who am I to argue with twice? If I can't personally hold everyone's hands through that difficult passage, I guess I'll have to change the words.

You put the word in quotes and give a fanciful definition. You don't appear to know how to use the word outlier in a sentence or to explain what an outlier would be in the context of Donkey Kong.
