That's not what I said at all. Your whole premise, the thing that I initially disagreed with, is that the media pretends that it's close for the purpose of sensationalism. I don't think they do that. And even IF they did, that particular thing might have a positive effect.
And I also disagree with everybody on the point that only Fox News and Showbiz Today or whatever were the ones saying it was close, or that it was unreasonable to think otherwise for an instant.
John Zogby? Who's that? Zogby... that name sounds familiar... what kind of shit was that dimbulb saying?
"The presidential race is indeed too close to call and likely to stay that way-at least in the nationwide popular vote. And the battleground states are mainly too close to call, as well."
http://www.forbes.com/sites/johnzogby/2012/11/04/what-if-its-not-close-after-all/
Financial Post? More like The National Enquirer!
http://business.financialpost.com/2012/11/06/tsx-holds-steady-as-traders-wait-out-too-close-to-call-u-s-election/
I love how you have managed to twist me refusing to avow certainty about something into me being a know-it-all!
"Go with my gut" on what? On not being sure?
And I was not saying that "both sides are equally likely to be right!!!" I was saying that both sides were equally likely to be right *from my perspective as someone not well-acquainted with the sides*. I had no fucking clue about the analysis being done or who was doing it.
I didn't even know who Nate Silver was until this thread! True story! And that's NOT some kind of brag!
You blew the scornful, dismissive, contemptuous, politically-disengaged "above it all" angle way, way, WAY beyond anything I actually said. In fact, THAT became practically the whole thing.
It's like you had a bunch of threads from 2007 open in other tabs, when I was at full turbo as a diarrhea-brained cartoon character on here, and were flipping back and forth between them and this one.
At no point was I dramatically and self-congratulatorily strutting around about how little I cared. "It's all bullshit of course," and "I'm busy with things I care about more" is all I said. Big deal. I even called the election exciting!
I said a lot about what I didn't know, barely anything about being *better* than what I didn't know.
Is that the same as 80 posts a day of screaming "FUCK YOU YOU FUCKING IGNORANT SHEEEEEP!!!! REALITY IS A LIIIIIIE!!!!"
You're having an argument with half a decade ago.
But what else is new around here? "Let's take what's just kind of mildly obnoxious now, a shadow of that, and pretend that it's still as bad as that was."
You don't NEED to have a fucking meltdown every time anybody says something you disagree with, or opines on a subject about which you are more knowledgeable, or reminds you that they have a fundamentally different outlook on things. You can just, like, disagree! Maybe even have a civil argument about it!
I may be a blustery dipshit, but your arguments would be so much stronger if you spent less time calling me one and more time showing how I am one.
Just stick to the goddamn argument and argue the points! Not "the argument? whatever. Here's what belittling caricature/stereotype you fit into today." And while you're at it, you might try to find - holy fuck - common ground. Or concede a point or two. It doesn't have to be a UFC match.
And you can back right off of the "singing in the shower" thing, Jason.
Mr. "I am Jesus" sig.
You don't get to be kawaii arrogant ^^ and then take me at my literal word and call me insane when I do it. Come on. |

Its interesting that you think almost exactly like the average layman, except you probably write more.
"I don't know much about politics, or the process, but the media tells me its close, and since anything close is generally exciting, I'm EXCITED by the elections due to this." is basically everyone, aside from people who try to get information on something and have their excitment regarding that thing be based on their knowledge of the possible outcomes, rather than a arbitary sentionalism. |

The National Post is an extremist right wing paper, Christopher. It's not actually reputable. _________________ @}-,-'- *~*~* Member of the FTU Elegant Tea Party Society *~*~* -'-,-{@ |

I realized that one of these can never be complete without the climactic "Chris Breaks Down And Makes A Big Long Post" finale, so there it was.
Good work, everybody!
We've still got it. |

"I'm not gonna trust some bitch-ass analysts anymore than I'm gonna trust the sensationalizing-ass media!"
"I'm ignorant (about politics, I'll crush you all in a debate about psychic mediums), but I just don't trust propaganda from either side, whether it's from fat racist radio hosts on one, or gay Jewish statisticians on the other!"
"People much smarter than me were confident that Romney would win, or at least that it would be close. It wasn't just "the media."" |

Hey Bladtman, maybe you could do me a favor: I'd like to hear an actual black person call me a horrible racist, privileged piece of white shit for once!
As opposed to white people who have appointed themselves the identity politics police.
It would really hit the spot. |

You're sort of like Last Action Hero minus everything enjoyable. A colossal turd that wants to be postmodern and self-aware but is actually completely ignorant of how uniformly retarded everything it says is. |
