Post     The Simpsons

So I decided to catch up on Simpsons, because I have seen every episode except Season 22 & 23.

Then I thought, Season 23. Man, thats 23 years, older than many kids today. I wonder what kids today think about Simpsons? I mean, someone who is 15 or 16 years old.

So, if any of you have younger brothers or hang out with teenagers, please ask them.

To the one I know best it is a non-entity. Not enough memes for his liking.

Since it has made it to 23 seasons, I think Fox should never cancel Simpsons. It should just go on and on, no matter how low the ratings become, so that we have one show that characters always remain the same age, with basically the same format, and have it go on and on and on so that no matter how everything around us changes, there is one constant thing always around us.

Its not exactly non-shitty though, so I understand kids considering it a non-entity. The pop culture references always seem like old people try to be hip.

I think it's the show kids have to struggle through before the Seth MacFarlane Cartoon Cavalcade is rolled out for the evening.

Lexy has a friend who is 23, and she has never seen the Simpsons.

I never get used to it. I always have to remind myself.

Yeah, I was 10 when Family Guy came out. It really did take everything The Simpsons was good at (frame by frame recreations of movies/TV scenes, obscure pop culture references, animated family sitcom) and raised the STAKES to bring it into the 21st century (rape jokes).

I'd like to catch up on The Simpsons but I don't really feel any motivation since I stopped watching around 2007, so fuck, 5 years of a weekly show that will probably be painful to watch a majority of the time? That's such a MADali thing to do!

Oh yeah my point about that Family Guy stuff was that I think the combination of Family Guy being what people liked about The Simpsons and The Simpsons starting to get shitty (or already shitty for 2/3/4/5 years depending on how much of a douchebag you want to be), people in my age group liked Family Guy more. Most of my The Simpsons watching was the 3-5 episodes that my local FOX affiliates played every night.

The Simpsons vs. South Park was one of the first things I was able to become righteously indignant about as a child!

Oh, the salad days of youth.

To the new kids on the block, all these shows are made by grandparents for grandparents.

All these new kids on the block see episodes where Bart references the New Kids on the Block and are like "Who are they???"

I think The Simpsons is literally a show made by old people for old people. It's not like the people who were in their 20s and 30s when the show came out have gone anywhere or gotten cooler.

I have a 22 year old friend who had literally never seen a second of the Simpsons and we watched the episode with the Troy McClure quote "The decapitation of Larry Leadfoot" and probably had some sort of freak out a 16 year old has when he's pimply and hears Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd for the first time while stoned. Both this post and my memory of these events will be incomplete.

So Ive decided to catch up on Season 22 and 23, and 23 is surprisingly really good. The Halloween special sucked, but the rest are better than I expected.

The show is all meta now which I am not sure is good or bad,

Krusty the Clown: "And all the movies are over a year old. It's like those parodies were written when the movies came out, but it took so long to animate them that we look dated and hackeye."

South Park has an animation turnaround of a few weeks or something like that, so them not being current is just a reflection of their writing.

Episode 9 of Season 23 is one of those few episodes about them being older, and I always love those episodes!
