The Donkey Kong thing actually ended up being pretty frustrating!
As soon as I'd gotten my 850,000 point game and reached the kill screen and was feeling all pumped up about myself in terms of being elite at something, and was about to start training to be the fourth person after Billy, Steve, and Hank to be ranked over a million points on an arcade machine, five people came along within the first few months of 2012 and got a million. And now there are like three dozen kill screeners (the movie brought a shitload of people into this).
But the million thing really annoyed me. Took 28 goddamn years for there to be 3 million-point players, and then five months later, there were 8. Right when I was trying to do it!
So now if I do it I'll just be another schlub.
And I'll never get the world record, first because I'm not good enough, second because it's been pumped up to the point where you need to get a really lucky game.
Guys, send me on a mission! |

Maybe you should stop desiring so much external validation.

You know those irreparable self-esteem scars, like the kind people get from being molested and believing that it's their fault, or their fathers telling them that they were no good or whatever? Where no matter how much therapy you get, there's a level at which you never truly stop believing it?
DBZ Uncensored was exactly like that. (Only the reverse in that it was an irreparable *boost*, as opposed to a scar.)
I always believed I was special and great and smarter than all those dicks, and I was catapulted from adolescence directly into a full-blown manifestation of that belief. Day after day after day, people told me that I was the best, and I'd sit there making a sly, gay face with the assurance that I had been right about myself all along because reality had borne it out.
So no matter how REALISTIC I get about myself, no matter how many times and in how many ways I am humbled, that "scar" - those three years of validation of every little narcissistic thought and feeling I ever had - is always going to be there. There's always a part of me that will say, "you were right, and that's the proof."
It will never go away!!!
Here's the thing: if I am delusionally egomaniacal, it's to my advantage. That's how shit gets done. Not sitting there thinking, "meh, I'm not so great."
If you believe your bullshit hard enough, it has a way of actually happening. Egomania gets results. Every great person in history was a lunatic. And the only times in my life that I've ever done anything great were either the result of, or instigator of, a severe manic episode where I was completely up my own ass.
So, fuck it. I'm the best.

You've been yammering on about this for years!
You've also subtly shifted the fiction to your narcissism being borne from DBZ Uncensored instead of inherent and on display in a childhood journal.
It is more likely to find success if you're egomaniacal, but you're also too lazy and easily discouraged, probably. That's something we have in common.
You were right when you pointed to Jon Allen's confidence as a tremendous strength for him getting where he wants to be. But when it comes to ego, you and he are likely on par, or maybe you have him beat (MAYBE YOU'RE IN THE TOP TEN ON EARTH!!!). But that's not enough. You also have to work at it, consistently, and not shelve one aspiration for another a few times a year.
Uh, I'm talking to myself in this post. _________________ Last edited by God on Fri Apr 05, 33 4:00 am; edited 1 time in total |

I didn't "shift the fiction!"
You're totally misunderstanding! Actually, you missed the whole point of what I was saying.
My narcissism wasn't borne out of DBZ Uncensored. It went from being a belief (as expressed in my diary) to an actual, manifested validation of the belief (DBZ Uncensored's fandom).
The point is that the narcissism was there and the HOOPLA around the site ground it into me forever.
And you're talking to yourself in all of your posts to me. (NEWS FLASH.) |

No, that isn't true at all, the last thing you said. It's real easy and vapid to act like all I do is project, but that's complete nonsense.
I am actually just as capable as you at being honest and transparent with regards to my own motivations, despite the trademark you naturally believe you have claimed on psychological clarity.
Man, I was trying to erect a bridge with you in that last post, but as always the only thing I erect within you is a petulant phallus of poorly justified self-aggrandizement. _________________ Last edited by God on Fri Apr 05, 33 4:00 am; edited 1 time in total |

Chris, you should read a book. They have a lot of them where something happens in an early part which comes to bear on later parts, which is something that you might enjoy. |

I'm going to change the subject from me (believe it or not!!!!!) to talk about crowd-funding.
This is the NEW THINGIE apparently. The new fad that everybody is shitting on themselves to do.
Is it just me, (did I talk about "is it just me, or..." in annoying expressions?) or did Kickstarter very suddenly explode into the wider public consciousness within the last two months or so?
I know it's been around for several year, but I hadn't really heard of it until recently, and now I can't get through a day on the Web without seeing something Kickstarter or Indiegogo related.
This seems to be happening at the speed of the end-of-2007 "everybody leaving MySpace and going to Facebook" phenomenon. |
