Last airbender was bad, but considering the shit people watch I'm surprised it got such bad reviews
I mean, lord of the rings was gay shit desperately trying to be epic _________________ It is I, Outland |

8 bit orgy There's no fucking way Obama will win FL and NV. There's like to democrats to speak of anywhere here. Even the younger adults are voting for McCain. Honestly, I never even met a democrat in Florida, period. Joined: 27 Apr 2007 Posts: 2888 (Thu Jul 28, 2011 5:31 pm) Reply

Lord of the Rings was at least very emotional. It's a much better movie with booze.
Paul: This is just another Shaun of the Dead clone with a lot of bible-bashing. The movie itself is one of the funniest films I've seen in the last 5 years. You don't have to be an alien believer whatsoever to watch it. It's really more about Americans than aliens. |

This is the first time I've ever agreed with you about anything alien-related. |

Social Network. I was going to write a review, but I think Armond White best describes the main problem:
"But Fincher and Sorkin go back to sentimentalizing Zuckerberg-as-victim: Their shared backgrounds in TV advertising and prime-time diversion are evident in trial scenes that play Zuckerberg’s superciliousness against his opponents’ hurt desperation and in glossy high-life scenes that distract from Zuckerberg’s self-interest, trading audience prurience and envy for insight."
"Not Soul Man, Harvard Man nor The Paper Chase—all movies that “got Harvard” to varying instructive degrees—The Social Network is simply Hollywood’s way, post-Obama, of sanctioning Harvard’s “masters of the universe” mystique. It’s an attempt at glorifying a contemporary aristocracy-cum-plutocracy through flattery of Zuckerberg and his ilk. "
"Like one of those fake-smart, middlebrow TV shows, the speciousness of The Social Network is disguised by topicality. It’s really a movie excusing Hollywood ruthlessness. That’s why it evades Zuckerberg’s background timidity and the mess that the Internet has made of cultural discourse. " |

Also, this is a very good editorial:
http://www.nypress.com/article-21675-discourteous-discourse.html
"Consider the illiterate belief in “spoilers” that now restricts critical discussion: Fear of “spoilers” nullifies any attempt at detailed interpretation or explanation of a film. It forestalls the tendency to analyze meaning and content that used to be a tenet of liberalarts education. Somehow the critical practice of analysis, reflection and comparison has not dawned on today’s consumers or taught them the merits of a reasoned response. In the blockbuster era, criticism has wound up in a disrespected place where it no longer addresses audience’s needs for enlightenment and excellence. Criticism has lost its educative function and the culture loses its moral foundation."
I've been saying this for a decade. People who think spoilers ruin a movie, are inferior movie-goers. |

That's bullshit. I literally took like a dozen classes in college that were all about watching movies, and the twists and major plot points of every movie I watched in every class were spoiled for me in the pre-screening lecture. Armond White doesn't know what he is talking about, and it doesn't matter anyway because he's a massive troll.
Spoilers absolutely do diminish the enjoyment I glean from watching a movie for the first time. Sure, I can still enjoy movies that have been spoiled, but I really can't imagine, say, Oldboy having the same impact it had on me emotionally if I had known about the twist going into it.
Fuck you, fuck you, fuck you. You are wrong, fuck you. |

Trick 'r Treat: Surprisingly good! A collection of stories that take place on Halloween night in some town, a perfect night to be murdered and have no one believe your blood isn't fake. Also, it's a terrible night to be a dick because you will PROBABLY die. Without a doubt the best direct-to-DVD movie starring an Oscar-winning actress I've ever seen. |

The Alien Girl: A Russian gangster gets arrested for murder, so his boss sends some guys to get his sister and use her as leverage to make sure he doesn't say anything. Pretty sure that she's going to be killed, she attempts to manipulate everyone so she can avoid it. Pretty average crime movie, so if you like that stuff, it's worth checking out. The Netflix description gave me a different idea of what the movie would be like, so if I knew beforehand, I probably wouldn't have watched it. Oh well, it's not a total piece of shit or anything. |

To the aliens, earth is space. As far as aliens are concerned, earth is where aliens come from. |

Hey, that Hulk vs. Wolverine was pretty great in that Wolverine actually cuts people instead of getting his ass beat for 30 minutes.
I'm actually pretty surprised it wasn't R-rated considering all of the limb removal it shows. |
