Post     Pro-science Science Fictions

Almost all science fictions are anti-science. What are some pro-science ones you can think of?

I think only Asimov rights pro-science science fiction. I finished watching every episode of the Original Twilight Zone and its almost all exclusively anti-science.

You mean, they're all Frankenstein stories about the horrors of knowledge?

Most hard science fiction authors show appreciation for scientific knowledge and technological progress. What would be necessary for you to consider a story pro-science?

Yeah, you're first sentence.

Its always about how technological advances has fucked humans over in the future or somber tales about playing God or whatever.

You probably have been reading the wrong stuff. Scientists and technologists in TV and movies do tend to be insane and amoral because that general story has put asses in seats since the dawn of time. If you're going to the trouble of reading words on paper, and you're getting the same crap, then you might be focusing too much energy on Dan Brown, Frank Herbert, etc.?

Am I wrong? What have you read?

I was just talking about this, for the most part Science Fiction movies do serve as a warning and deals a lot with corruption and segregation of ultra rich and poor.

Demolition Man would be pretty close to being pro science except maybe the 3 sea shells thing.

Snow Crash was post-cyberpunk type of deal where humanity is learning to co-exist with technology, but in the process they lose parts of their humanity.
Actually Snow Crash was probably more straight cyber-punk. The Diamond Age is more more post.

Gibson's Virtual Light, Idoru and All Tomorrow's parties is about how society itself is like a cyborg, a mult-faceted machine in which each part works together to form a unique being. That's kind of pro-technology.

IDK man even modern writing usually depicts technology as something that makes people lose their humanity, but I think that it's also about us coexisting with it.

Your English has become so poor, MADali.

I think you do pretty decently with written science fiction. There was quite a number of authors that write stories where science and scientists are positive.

For example, I don't think the Ringworld or Uplift War series negatively portray science. Which is nice in the case of the Uplift War, because genetic engineering plays a part in it with humans increasing the capabilities of chimps and dolphins.

A good place to look is on the list of Hugo and Nebula winners.

Asimov is still the best, though.

MADali is right. For instance Star Trek was very pro-religion and routineley bashed the vulcans for being too logical.

Anyway may I reccommend The Terminator for a pro-science movie

Star Trek was actually anti-religion. They commonly referred to that stuff as superstition.

DS9 was more pro-religion, but even then they were just aliens.

Bicentennial Man is Science Fiction and Issac Asimov, I have not seen it but is it not just about a robot wanting to become human?

There's no fucking way Obama will win FL and NV. There's like to democrats to speak of anywhere here. Even the younger adults are voting for McCain. Honestly, I never even met a democrat in Florida, period.

Science Fiction and Fantasy are virtually the same genre stylistically. I don't see how there could be an "anti-fantasy" fantasy novel.
