The main delay for me watching TV shows is Megavideo's quota. But fortunately I was able to watch the first two seasons on CTV's website, so that was only a factor for a single season.

It is absolutely maddening and baffling that forums are dying out in general.

The new paradigms are so drastically inferior that I honestly can't comprehend why any consumer would be in favour of them.

At least with Usenet/web forums there are still a couple of things that web forums are better at than Usenet.

Now it's shitty guest book shit tied to 'content' (articles, videos, etc), or guest book shit on social networking sites.

It may be true that forums are being implemented less on NEW projects, but it doesn't seem to me that traffic at existing forums is declining (yeah, FTU, but obviously that's more an aging group of friends than a forum so it doesn't count).

However, I agree that it seems like every new shift in Web development trends just takes an even bigger, steamier shit on the chest of usability than the last.

Blogs, for example, are such a horrible fucking format for organizing and presenting content, yet everybody just makes "blogs" about everything now, whether or not the blog form is actually a good fit for the content (hint: it usually isn't, unless you're fucking LOGGING something, in a way that dates/sequence matters).

I think traffic for most forums is declining. It's just not a hugely obvious level of attrition.

Yeah, blogs make absolutely no sense unless it's sequential. You're absolutely right about that. They're being used as a generic content management system.

What you see in blogs most days is what you used to see in shitty Geocities pages back in the early 2000s. If anything I'm glad things look a lot less like garbage now!

BUT by the same token, that also means people can just create content at the drop of a hat without having to worry about manually inputting code, working out the kinks and such. It makes me sad somehow.
