Post     Board Games (more like bored games)

I'm looking for new games to introduce to people with short attention spans. Right now we usually plan Settlers of Catan or Cranium, with Pandemic thrown in occasionally (though I usually end up having to do most of the thinking and strategizing). Any suggestions?

Also, I've been eying the Simpsons Scene It, but are these things any good or would a regular trivia game be better and cheaper?

Trivial Pursuit, especially older out-of-print questions from 20 years ago are the best.

There's plenty of games I've played recently that I think I can recommend you. How much are you willing to spend?

I think you can find a copy of Betrayal at House on the Hill for around that price. It's a pretty good game that pays tribute to all kinds of horror sub-genres, from the haunted house, the deranged psycho, invading aliens, ancient spirits and so forth. Basically, the players explore a house until they trigger the curse for the game, and one of them ends up becoming the traitor. It's pretty easy to set up, and pretty fun too.

Then there's a pretty neat game called "Zombies!" that's more or less a board game version of Left 4 Dead. You can also get a neat card game called Fluxx, though that could be hard to run since the rules change on the go.

Lastly, you can get Ticket to Ride and Vegas Showdown. Those two are a bit of a rare find, particularly at a reasonable price, but the games themselves are a lot of fun to play. They both focus on building an empire.

If I remember any other games I'll let you know!

I've played Mafia a lot in real life (Well, the werewolf themed variant) and it's been pretty good. You need people to be active though, because people if don't care that much it destroys any strategy.

How does Mafia work in real life? Like how do the mafia communicate who they want to kill without giving themselves away?

Every night everyone puts their heads down, I turn on loud speakers and I loudly ask the Mafia who they want to kill, the psychic who they want to examine and stuff, and they point and shit and communicate non verbally.

I don't really play any board games that are simpler than Settlers of Catan. I guess Carcassonne may be as simple. It's a tile placement game
