I know Chris is the only poker guy around here, but whatever!

So I've been playing a lot of poker, both online and offline and whatever, and it's been extremely frustrating. It's such a weird combination of people making stupid flukey plays all the time and getting lucky, and even though you know the odds are in your favor, there's not much you can do but hope they continue to make bad plays!

Poker is pretty awesome/horrible in that a table of bad players can unconsciously fuck up any sense of strategy and tactics and turn the game into a lottery.

Playing in person is about a million times easier than online, which is mostly filled with inhuman monsters trying to make 8.50 an hour. I don't know if there are any casinos in Illinois, but if there are you should go to the biggest one immediately and destroy the players at the 1/2 tables.

Yeah it's the same way when you get a really bad server in Team Fortress 2. It's like "Umm, have you PLAYED this before?? Maybe you should do that before coming here and wasting everybody's time..."

Online is infuriating. I've only come in 2nd at a tournament before getting knocked out in like 4 tournaments in a row by shitty gamblers. I play once a week in a group that's very good and I'll usually play either terribly or really well depending on how tired I am. The Montreal Casino has really good poker though, and I made about $300 there one time at the video table in an hour by playing gambling degenerates. The 1/2 tables are pretty terrible though, because you'll sit down around a ton of guys in Full Tilt hats table talking the entire time.

I go with my roommate a lot, but he is a serious poker player and doesn't talk a lot, so it can get pretty boring.

My roommate has probably made about $60,000 this year but at the same time may have lost half of that with poker.

It's like this:

- Bad players will give you their money in the long run, but frustrate the shit out of you in the short run, because you'll notice and feel it when they get lucky, but not be particularly aware of it when you're beating them.

- Good players are a waste of fucking time to play against, because the game effectively has a skill plateau that you can't really overcome, and everyone is just pushing the money back and forth depending on who is getting the cards that day.

Haha, I got stalked today! I was in a tournament with 9 10 suited, and queen king 8 flop. The river was a 7, and I went all in and a guy called me with king eight. The flop was a jack and I won and the guy started going berserk and calling me a douchebag idiot for the rest of the tournament!

If you can find idiots, Omaha is the very best game to make money at. You can consistently know where you are in a hand with a far higher degree of certainty than in any other game.
