Did they make you sit in full lotus position a lot at china school? I would like to be able to do it but it makes me feel like I'm wrenching my knees apart sideways if I hold it for even like a minute. Is there Chinese wisdom on this matter or are some people's legs just... not... good enough...?

Oh.

We had meditation every day, which was encouraged, but optional. I don't think it's easy to go straight into a full lotus if you aren't flexible or haven't done any kind of stretching before. I think what most people did was do a half lotus, which is just one leg pulled over your calf and the other under, which is easy. If you're trying to do meditation or something it's better to be in a position you can comfortably hold rather than something you have to struggle constantly with.

I do yoga and am pretty flexible overall. I would figure I should just sit in it as long as I'm comfortable and then switch to something else but I can barely even get into it! And I can tell it is so much better than half lotus.
