The big problem with meeting people's parents is that I tend to adopt different social postures depending on the groups I'm around. So for instance when I'm around someone who is 20 I act different than I would around someone who is say in their 40's or older (or someone I work for). So it's one of those situations going in that I know I'm going to look like a douchebag to either my friend or their parents or both by the end of the meeting.

I do what Derek describes a lot. I just get self-conscious so I revert to being as polite and respectful as I can, and it makes me feel so douchey as I am a complete misanthrope who despises existence.
