Yeah, so my company realized how fucked they were without me and now I'm going back there as an "independent contractor" at 2.5 times my old salary to teach them how to run the place.
Geez. |

| It's great when it is revealed that a seemingly asynchronous relationship actually favours the opposite side from what was expected. |

That's awesome, but does that mean you're only going to be working there for a certain amount of time?
Even if that's the case, at least it will buy you time to look for another job while still making money.
Man, that's pretty funny. What a bunch of fuckers! _________________

If you're an independent contractor, you're going to need 2.5 times your old salary to cover the self-employment taxes.
The US government enjoys ruthlessly assraping those who work for themselves.

What? Why would you need that?
I don't pay any extra above normal. |

Yeah, it'll only be for a few weeks or something, but getting paid for a while is better than nothing.
In looking at the tax forms I don't really see how the self-employment tax is particularly higher than any other taxes. |

For me there would be an issue if I was incorporated, but since I'm just a mere sole proprietorship it's literally the same income tax, plus I have to charge and pay sales tax (but that's essentially a zero sum game year to year, at least).
If I were incorporated the business would have to pay income taxes as well as myself when I was given a salary. But I think even that is favourable, since you only pay tax on profit, and the business tax is lower than personal income tax. |

| Incorporating is a good idea. I incorporated a while ago and used all my stock market earnings as my profit, and then with a charitable donation and "business expenses" I paid a small amount of tax. |

| I didn't do the corporate taxes because I had a family lawyer at the time, but he did explain to me the entire process and it didn't sound very difficult. |
