I read somewhere that We're Only In It for the Money was a parody of Sgt. Pepper.
Of course, it could be a satire of fake flower children who were... only... in it... for the money? Because dropping out of college and wearing tie-dye...earned them money somehow?
If you really want to look into it, you can find tons of cultural references to the Beatles being a calculated cash cow. I'm thinking Spinal Tap. Stop playing around. You know what I want. You know what I need. Or maybe you don't. Do I have to come fat out tell your everything? Give me some money.
Also, a big part of their success was that "normal" middle class people could relate to them. Just like how white people would buy Elvis's albums because he was white. The Beatles took this approach even further and capitalized off their accessibility to suburnanites.
It's like if Bill O'Reilly started dressing in drag and recording the sounds he made from stuffing small Somalian children in his ass to sell his records to bullyish, argumentative repressed homosexuals like ALDP. |

Also, I said, "They came to America with suits and identical haircuts like a barbershop quartet or something."
You responded, " Just because they wore suits doesn't mean they were trying to look like businessmen."
I'm really tired of being called ignorant by people without basic reading comprehension skills.
Seriously, if you want your life to be like MPP 2000, find a group of fifteen year olds willing to go through it with you. I'm going to quickly tire of giving fresh perspectives on things if you're all going to yell at me about how wrong I am instead of asking me to explain when you don't understand. |

Hey, uh,
"The attitude projected by the Beatles is businessy and professional and capitalistic."
I'm pretty sure that's where ALDP got "businessmen" from.

| It's pretty awesome how instead of reading up on a subject in order to find a more coherent counter attack, he just fucking digs his heels into whatever shit pile he just spewed and goes "no re-read wut i wrote im right." |

| I think what's weird is that Punkasss is right in that for their (Beatles) first several albums, they were a legitimate, hugely successful pop band that was being overexposed because people wanted them to be, and because they made a lot of money. Then they wrote a lot of shit like Tomorrow Never Knows, and then an entire album based around a vaudeville concept, a whole album with stuff that basically shows immense artistic development from three of the musicians in the band (full of abstract lyrics and over production to achieve some kind of progressive unheard of music) and Punkasss basically says (I have no reading comprehension) these guys were doing everything to make tons of money all the time. |

Punkasss' arguments are pissing the fuck out of me.
The Beatles' matching haircuts were in itself weird, because no one else had that hairstyle. Wearing suits means nothing because it was early 60s, all bands and musicians wore suits. You can't exactly expect a new band in an early rock enviroment to suddenly have the freedom from the studio to come out in leather pants and tshirts, do you? Even the Rolling Stones wore suits.
Its not like The Beatles jumped in when the hippy movement was in full swing to capitalize on them. For people like you the idea that a band can be both extremely creative and unique AND mainstream blows your mind apart.
But its okay, 8 Bit is on your side. I was right when I compared him to you a few days back. |

"I read somewhere that We're Only In It for the Money was a parody of Sgt. Pepper."
Oh, well if you read something somewhere then I admit I'm wrong. Why didn't you say so earlier?
The cover of We're Only in it for the Money parodies the cover of Sgt. Pepper. There is a song with a reprise. Aside from those obvious references to the Beatles, the overriding theme of the album is American fascination/revulsion with the hippie movement, plus the same "plastic people" thing Frank Zappa goes on about in all of his early albums. Have you even listened to it?
Even if you found a quote from Frank Zappa saying "This album and every song on it is about Sgt. Pepper and how I perceive the Beatles to be shrewd businessmen with guitars" that would only make you a gullible retard who seizes on every piece of information as true and worthy of instantly regurgitating as your own knowledge/"fresh perspective." It's not like a superficial attack on the BIGGEST BAND IN THE WORLD could be good for publicity or anything! And maybe you missed the irony of using "We're Only in it for the Money" as the title of an album with songs like "Hot Poop," "Nasal Retentive Calliope Music," "Idiot Bastard Son," etc. whose lyrics are generally saying "America is stupid, America's tastes are stupid, Americans are ignorant and hateful." No, "It's about the Beatles" fits a lot better.
"If you really want to look into it, you can find tons of cultural references to the Beatles being a calculated cash cow. I'm thinking Spinal Tap."
Oh my god, you fucking decoded Gimme Some Money, now I see everything. Have you heard of the British Invasion? It involved lots of talented bands from Britain dominating the American music scene, then a thousand shitty bands modelling themselves after the successful ones in order to make money.
You're really really stupid, Punkasss. You grew up in one of the stupidest places in America and after spending your entire childhood as the smartest person in the room, you think this works for every room, it is just a quality that rooms have. And if you're just trolling then you're still stupid because we've known you for a decade so it's ridiculous to act like you can fool us. I'm taking this seriously because this is exactly how stupid you are when you're being serious. |
