Ok so my past computers so far have always been
Antec cases, AMD processors and ASUS motherboards. I haven't built a PC in a while and now they have a bunch of new parts.
I havent researched any of the brand names and was trying to go a bit overboard while keeping it below super priced. But how does this look or would you swap certain parts? I did this all off of newegg. |

Sound Blaster is useless. This isn't 1994! Don't worry, a new game isn't going to ask you to choose between Sound Blaster or Adlib, and make you set the IRQ to 40. |

Only in that this is a very young forum.
The era of having to do that kind of shit was ending about the time that most people here were getting out of diapers. I'd expect YOU to remember those days, but you're an exception. |

My age is the mode on this forum.
Anyone that played computer games before Windows 98 should know about this stuff. |

I was in grade 5 when I got my first computer. When we finally got Sound Blaster instead of PC Speaker I was so excited to hear the fucking level up music in Wizardry 7! |

Unless you plan on doing some music recording/production/editing, a sound blaster is pretty stoopid.
2 BFGs ftw, who gives a fuck about the wrest |

Man, now I'm reminiscing about this.
Computers used to be such a fucking nightmare.
The average Gen Xer tends to be good with computers and figuring shit out because we had to struggle with them during that horribly slow and hard era, while the Baby Boomers and Gen Y suck.
We grew up with them and were thus naturally acclimated to them (unlike the Baby Boomers), yet everything wasn't fucking handed to us plug and play (like Gen Y).
When we die out, that's going to be it! |

Windows 3.1 was awesome. "WRITE". No faggy underlining misspelled words here!
At least Paint hasn't changed at all. |

I had to use a boot disk to play Wizardry 7 because 1 megabyte was TOO INSANE for my computer. Actually, it's really fucked up how one stupid picture you find online is bigger than the entire Wizardry 7 game.
Oh yeah, and fucking "look up this word in the manual" anti piracy measures. |

But yeah, using the Internet with Trumpet Winsock. I used to type in a webpage, then go outside and dick around for 5 minutes while the page loaded. I miss that in a way. |

Did any of you guys have a fucking turbo button on your computer? What was the deal with that anyway? I used it to cheat at some games by slowing it down. |

Was I alone in using BBSes, or were there others on FTU that played LORD and so on? Maybe I'm thinking of Leitch.[/list] |

I was about to declare that no one I had ever known in all my travels was more ridiculous about building PCs than John, but then I remembered Jason's $10,000 Mac that he sold a year later. |
