When I listen to music, I rarely pay much attention to the lyrics, except in special cases, like The Decemberists. And even then, I don't always do it, and I don't end up mentally explicating anything until after several tens of listens. I like vocals as an instrument much more, and actual good lyrics are just complimentary.

Anyway, I also like listening to Japanese music for this reason. I'm worried that I'll start concentrating on the lyrics when I learn more of the language and that it will totally ruin it for me.
