Post     Michael Kunz's Online Journal.

I will do my best to update this every day.

My name is Michael Kunz. I am 23 years old. I live in the same general area in which I was raised, which is the New Orleans area.

Last night was New Years Eve. I went to a giant Christmas-tree-burning block party celebration. Afterward, my girlfriend and I went to her on-campus apartment. We took her car. My car is at the house where the band that I'm in practices. The band is called Spite. We are laughably bad. Here is proof: www.myspace.com/spiteuntil
I only play on one recorded song on our myspace. It is called Glib. There is a better recording of the song here: www.myspace.com/usnero
on which I play every instrument.

I do not have a specific place of residence. I alternately sleep at my girlfriend's house, the house where the band that I'm in practices, and a few other select locations.

My family recently sold a property, and I am entitled to $120,000 that the trusties (my uncle) will not let me spend unless I use it to purchase my own house. My family usually does not approve of the houses I want to purchase because they are in "bad" (read: black) neighborhoods. I suppose my current homelessness is some sort of angsty protest. I prefer to think of it as laziness. I also don't have a (paying) job.

My girlfriend had work at eight this morning, and I'm waiting for her to get off so she can take me back to my car.

I am passing the time by eating her peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and reading a novella written by the sister of somebody in my band. It is very bad. It is called Garden of Ghouls, and it's about vampires. There are numorous typographical errors, even though it is professionally printed and apparently published by Publish America which I guess will publish anything.

Here is a humorous sample of expository information revealed in the dialogue:

"'You mean after Elsa disappeared for a week and then showed up a week later gnawed on by alligators with her head chopped off near the narina where her body had been dumped?' I asked. I clenched my jaw and turned to look for his reaction. His eyes closed, he inhaled deeply and bit down hard on his lip."

Ha ha ha ha, "published author." Life is a nightmare.

Spite is playing a show at the Circle Bar, a bar located on "Lee's Circle," a loop in New Orleans with a statue of Confederate general Robert E. Lee in the middle.

I hope we move and titilate.

Did you tell the wise black cooks that you worked with that you're sitting on $120,000 out of vapid ambivalence?

The line cooks generally assume that all white people are sitting on a pile of inherited wealth. In New Orleans, this is generally true. Remember the white population is only about thirty percent. There is a reason those four or five interbred white families were ever in New Orleans to begin with.

They referred to me as "one of those smart white folks that saves his money" and were generally approving. I probably told them at some point or another, but they could tell by my lax attitude at work and my blatant disrespect to superiors that I didn't really need my job the way they needed theirs.

Those Publish America articles are illuminating.

I am now at the house where the band I'm in practices. I stayed up all night with conspiracy theories.

Zeitgeist.

It's something to be considered.

And then there's this.

I don't know if, over the next few days, I'll have the drive to keep up with this journal every day.

I really don't feel like posting here that much. It's so boy.

Still, I must trudge on.

I'm watching the Ali G movie. I'm about to withdraw thirty dollars from the bank.

John F. Kennedy was shot by his limo driver.

Grunge music was an example of Masonic mind control through the media.

8 bit orgy is the best thing since German soap operas.

He'll think I'm trying to make some social capital power play by saying that.

He's probably right. I actually am that pathetic.

My new cell phone that I did nothing to earn arrived at my mom's house today, and I should have it by Monday. Sooner or later, as I've earlier mentioned, I'll also own a house.

A cell phone AND a house that I didn't earn.

Life is sweet!

The amazing thing about my inherited wealth is that it's all on my dad's side of the family, and my mom is actually going through code red economic despair right now. Her only job is an assistant to a carpenter who dated her best friend and is a fixture in her core social scene. Her friends obviously see her as a charity case. Her house is facing foreclosure, so she's trying to sell it, but the fence between her and her neighbor's house was blown down during Katrina and never set back up. She has actually hired a real estate agent who is showing the house to multiple families a week, with this giant pile of wood and nails littering the driveway.

And she refuses to take me seriously when I tell her she can take all the money I'm supposed to get and try to retire.

Life is sweet!

I'm sick with the flu.

My girlfriend is taking me to my mom's house tomorrow, where I'll get a phone.

I'll stay there until I'm not sick, and then I have to try to get a job as the semester begins, and it should be my final semester in college! I'm going to graduate with an English literature degree!

Saturday we opened for Sick Like Sinatra at the Circle Bar.

The show was pretty boring, and we only played to a few people who didn't seem very impressed and barely clapped between songs.

Then toward the end, I stopped actually playing the guitar and started Manipulating feedback by playing with knobs and stuff on my amp and I started running up to the other guys in the band and taking the microphone away while they were singing, and everybody loved it. By the time Sick Like Sinatra went on, a lot of people were there, and they kept SHOUTING US OUT saying stuff like, "We're fucking SICK LIKE SINATRA, and we love SPITE."

We got free PBR all night and fifty dollars from door sales, which the drummer got to keep in its entirety for having had the foresight to buy a lot of weed the day before the show.

Pabst Blue Ribbon has been ruined.

One too many cans have been consumed ironically by hipsters.

I'm sure your ironic enjoyment of it is a great casualty though and I hope the hipsters pay someday.
