- Meanwhile, name a single restaurant where you can get a pasta-based meal for less than $6-$7.

Maybe it's the town that I live in or something, but cheap pasta at a restaurant is a pipe dream.

I guess the word choice on "most expensive meal you can get a restaurant" was bad, but you know what I mean (going to a place that serves pasta is almost always going to cost you more than going to a place that serves hamburgers or pizza or whatever, even though pasta SHOULD be cheaper than either of those things).

Pasta is routinely under ten dollars at restaurants, unless you get meat or seafood with it. You might as well have asked why rice is always so cheap at stores, while nigiri is so damned expensive.

Good, freshly made pasta sauce can be expensive to make. Not to mention that some sauces contain meat as well, or things like chicken and shrimp can be added in.

Pasta sauce from the grocery store is fine if that's what you're expecting, but if I went to an actual restaurant that just sloshed Prego over some spaghetti, I'd be pissed.

Anyway, Fazoli's is relatively cheap.

I guess what I'm saying is, there's no fast food equivalent of pasta, and it seems like pasta would be a prime candidate for that sort of thing, if they wanted it to be.

Sure, you CAN have goddamn homemade pasta that somebody made from dough that morning, but it doesn't HAVE to be that way, and it seems like that's the only choice.

I want the Taco Bell or Burger King of pasta. If nothing else, so that I won't have to eat Taco Bell or Burger King if I want cheap food.

- Sbarro's has very limited options. You can't get something like ravioli or tortellini with white sauce. You have like 4 pasta choices at most there.
- Pizza Hut is not priced individually. They give you like 5 pounds for $15 or something. Plus, I don't have any Pizza Huts near me.
