Ahem

Erica observes the paintless
squares of dust
once blocked by dumb machines

designed to kill her need for me.
Marvels at the smell observed inside her
want to sneeze at dust.

I, inside her house, observe a lighter
side to heavy rain combusting
her possessions.

Frantically she waits,
formulates a plan, and tries to smile.
Rebuild inside until the rain's not fire.

Build inside until the rain's not fire.

My head hangs as I,
consumed by musical endeavor,
observe carpet. Ice murk.

Do I have to say what instrument I play?

I don't listen to him much anymore.

It's too country (guy from Texas sings about being drunk, jilted, and depressed).

(exactly the same shit only filled with audible mistakes, and the guy sounds like somebody is squeezing his nuts while he sings)

Elliot Smith is really good, and I understand though that maybe people just don't like the guy.

I listened to him a lot, almost exclusively, for a long time.

But it was at a time when I was trying to change my musical tastes, and I wasn't really sure if I liked it or not at first.

His first album that I heard was Either/Or which I think is probably his worst one because it comes at a transitional period between his acoustic four track recordings and his more elaborately produced later stuff. Instead of this being an interesting sign of things to come, it just sounds like he's run out of ideas for the acoustic four-track format and naturally has to move on to something else. Plus, it's the album they take a lot of the songs for Goodwill Hunting from, and I can't honestly say I don't think that movie is really stupid and gay.

Plus, he was part of that trend of indie rock moving away from punk and towards quieter stuff, which to me, a lot of the times, just sounds like country/folk music, which I avoid at all costs.

But his ultra-quiet voice is really good and some of his songs are really moving, nonetheless.

I just liked him because I thought it was cool that he stabbed himself repeatedly in the chest.
