Skylar Deleon, a former child actor who had a non-speaking role on TV's Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers, was convicted in an Orange County, Calif., courtroom Monday of three counts of first-degree murder, including the deaths of a couple he tied to an anchor and threw off their yacht.

Deleon, 29, was convicted of killing Prescott, Ariz., couple Tom Hawks, 57, and his wife Jackie, 47, who were last seen on Nov. 15, 2004, after departing on a test run to sell their 55-ft. yacht, the "Well Deserved."

He is also charged with slitting the throat of – and scamming $50,000 from – John Jarvi, 45, of Anaheim, Calif., whose body was left near a roadway in Ensenada, Mexico, on Dec. 27, 2003.

Ryan Hawks, Tom Hawks's son, called the verdict a "warm up" for the penalty phase, which is scheduled to begin Wednesday, the Associated Press reports. "It felt like a little tiny piece of the puzzle was put in justice," said Hawks.

Deleon's attorney, Gary Pohlson, conceded at the start of the trial, "Skylar is guilty of all three murders, [but] at the end of this, I'm going to ask you to give him life without the possibility of parole as the appropriate sentence."

'Horrible, Horrible Life'
Explaining the call for leniency, Pohlson told reporters Monday, "He's had a horrible, horrible life" and that Deleon's father abused the boy and later died of AIDS. Pohlson also argued in court that his client was not the mastermind of the killings.

In the murder of the Hawkses, prosecutors said Deleon pretended to be interested in purchasing the vessel, took a test cruise on which he and two other men overpowered the couple, forced them to sign over the boat's ownership and then disposed of the couple in the Pacific.

The Hawkses' bodies were never recovered.

Londoners were left baffled today when a strange pink light appeared over the capital.

The alien-like cloud glowed brightly over the streets of Mayfair in the early morning. It hovered over buildings before breaking up and slowly disappearing.

But after dismissing theories of UFOs and atmospheric phenomenons, the Met Office said the blob was likely to be nothing more than the lights of the city reflected in a cloud.

A spokesman said: "If you have very high cloud, as we did last night, you tend to get odd splodges of low cloud that will ref lect the pink or sometimes orangey-pink lights of the city from all angles and stand out from the darkness of the sky.

"It can be truly spectacular to witness."

BOSSIER CITY, La. (AP) - Miss Teen Louisiana lost her crown 11 days early after being arrested on charges of leaving a restaurant without paying and carrying marijuana. RPM Productions Inc., the sponsor, took back the title on Tuesday after learning that Lindsey Evans, 18, of Blanchard, had been arrested, president Paula M. Miles said Wednesday.

Evans will have to return her sash and crown, but won't have to return any other prizes or cash equivalents, Miles said.

"She's done a good job this year," Miles said.

A call to Evans' parents' house was not answered Wednesday.

Miles said she had been told that the three women with Evans told police that Evans, alone in the group, had paid her bill. But Bossier City spokesman Mark Natale said Evans admitted not paying.

Bossier City police booked all four on theft charges, three on drug charges and two on drug paraphernalia charges, he said.

Natale said Bossier City police were called to a Posados Cafe restaurant Saturday evening because a group had left without paying $46.07. The manager had found a pocketbook at the table, and police found Evans' driver's license and about 2 grams of suspected marijuana in it, Natale said.

He said officers recognized Evans from the photo when the group returned for the pocketbook.

Miles said she talked with Evans on Monday.

The next Miss Teen Louisiana will be chosen Nov. 1 at a pageant in Lafayette. Michelle Berthelot, Miss Louisiana USA 2008, will crown the winner.

The 56-year-old dad lived in a Sheffield housing estate but cannot be named to protect his victims and their children.

He committed the shocking abuse over a 30-year period, fathering nine children with his daughters, Sheffield Crown Court heard.

Two died on the day they were born and the other babies were lost either through miscarriages or abortions.

The dad pleaded guilty to nine rapes and two indecent assaults against his elder daughter, and 16 rapes and two indecent assaults against her younger sister.

The abuse was carried out between October 1979 and February this year.
He denied an indecent assault against each of them, as well as a rape against his younger daughter, when they were each aged under 10. These charges will lie on the file to spare his victims the trauma of a trial.

TOKYO, Japan (AP) -- A 43-year-old Japanese woman whose sudden divorce in a virtual game world made her so angry that she killed her online husband's digital persona has been arrested on suspicion of hacking, police said Thursday.

The woman, who is jailed on suspicion of illegally accessing a computer and manipulating electronic data, used his identification and password to log onto popular interactive game "Maple Story" to carry out the virtual murder in mid-May, a police official in northern Sapporo said on condition of anonymity, citing department policy.

"I was suddenly divorced, without a word of warning. That made me so angry," the official quoted her as telling investigators and admitting the allegations.

The woman had not plotted any revenge in the real world, the official said.

She has not yet been formally charged, but if convicted could face a prison term of up to five years or a fine up to $5,000.

Players in "Maple Story" raise and manipulate digital images called "avatars" that represent themselves, while engaging in relationships, social activities and fighting against monsters and other obstacles.

The woman used login information she got from the 33-year-old office worker when their characters were happily married, and killed the character. The man complained to police when he discovered that his beloved online avatar was dead.

The woman was arrested Wednesday and was taken across the country, traveling 620 miles from her home in southern Miyazaki to be detained in Sapporo, where the man lives, the official said.

The police official said he did not know if she was married in the real world.

In recent years, virtual lives have had consequences in the real world. In August, a woman was charged in Delaware with plotting the real-life abduction of a boyfriend she met through "Second Life," another virtual interactive world.

In Tokyo, police arrested a 16-year-old boy on charges of swindling virtual currency worth $360,000 in an interactive role playing game by manipulating another player's portfolio using a stolen ID and password.

Virtual games are popular in Japan, and "Second Life" has drawn a fair number of Japanese participants. They rank third by nationality among users, after Americans and Brazilians.

BLUE ASH, Ohio -- Charges were dropped Wednesday evening against an 89-year-old Blue Ash woman charged with stealing a football from some neighbor children.

Edna Jester was charged earlier this week with petty theft for refusing to return a child's football that landed in her yard, but City Solicitor Mark Vanderlaan and City Prosecutor Mark Arnzen said they lacked sufficient culpability to prosecute.

Police said Jester and her neighbors had been involved in an ongoing dispute over children playing in her yard.

Blue Ash Police Capt. James Schaffer said Monday that police warned Jester twice and finally arrested her after she refused to accept a citation.
