Kaioh could have been much cooler if the author hadn't apparently become hypnotized by all his money and the story became confused and bizarre. The part where he defeats Kenshiro was extremely mind-raping. Kenshiro at this time has essentially proven himself to be leagues beyond even the last few extremely powerful humans in the world, like comparing the Sun to a supernova. Then Kaioh shows up and starts beating Kenshiro's ass. Okay, sometimes Ken lets people get in a few licks before he returns them to the sky. Kenshiro whips out the most powerful technique of the most powerful martial art, which up until ten years before had never before been used despite having been given a name thousands of years earlier, and Kaioh destroys it instantly, crushing Kenshiro so hard that he never uses the fucking technique again, ever. He then starts digging his fingers into Kenshiro's flesh, and then throws him onto a giant Ursa Major statue and crucifies him with these rocks he found, while screaming and commanding the stars in the sky to weep.

Come to think of it, the first two chapters where Kaioh appears are also awesome. Kaioh is built up as a person who obliterates all previous concepts of villainy, and the first time you see him emanating demonic aura like smoke while sitting on a horse wearing ornate armor, does not disappoint. Then he becomes the most intense human being in history, never moving except in a sprint, whether on horseback or on foot. He turns Lin unconscious just by touching her, and then sprints back to his castle and sprints down the hall to his throne. When Lin wakes up, he (naturally) screams at her to witness how horrible his existence is.

Later, he shreds a bunch of pirates by flailing his arms around and screaming something like "WOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! I'LL EXECUTE EVERY LAST ONE OF YOU!!!!!"

See, I haven't really SEEN Yuujiro in action.

But, probably not more than Yuujiro.

ALTHOUGH, based on the way manga normally works Baki will probably kill Yuujiro AT SOME POINT. Nobody ever touches Hiko, but he doesn't really get involved generally. He's like Stone Cold in the FTUW.

That is an amazing post.

The first chapter Kaioh appears in, where he's sprinting and galloping everywhere, is unbelievably intense.

Also, the hardest I have shit my pants due to manga, ever, was when Kaioh first took his helmet off and I thought he was fucking Raoh.

I can't remember the hardest I've shit my pants, but it may have been when they introduced the ability to resurrect people in GANTZ despite me not liking that idea now.

I had cheated and found out what was going to happen in advance from Babelfish translations of French and Italian forum posts, but this was at a time when I was rereading the entire manga almost weekly and memorizing the Japanese technique names and the noises goons made when they died.

I did a massive Rolling Eyes

at the enormous number of familial relationships that hadn't been revealed yet. Raoh's mom should be very proud, except for Sayaka!

It's funny how in Naruto, each character gets one new technique every thousand chapters or so, whereas in Fist Of The North Star, almost every technique is used precisely once.

Now that I think about it, the strongest emotion I ever felt about anime may be what I felt when episode 25 of Berserk ended and then there was no episode 26.

I hate to jump around from topic to topic, but this thread INSPIRED me to reread Berserk, and how about when Guts kills that fucking executioner that tortured Griffith?

OR, probably better yet, when he runs up the stairs right after that killing dozens of men, and he comes out at the top panting, and that asshole says something like "Ha, you're worn out! Never show your weakness to an enemy! You've already lostBLARGh" as Guts cuts him in fucking half.

Those are two good moments. The first wasn't really a holy shit thing for me, but I felt a strong sense of satisfaction.

I remember someone (I think Vito) posting the page of that guy getting annihilated after acting like a dick and that's when I knew I had to read Berserk.

Rice told me that the scene where Guts lights himself on fire to kill the elf assholes and then cuts open a PRE-ELF BABY SAC to douse the flames out with THEIR BLOOD should have been on the top 10.

I've read and re-read Berserk a total of 3 times now, and each time I still shit my pants because its awesomeness is UNENDING.

And there's even just simple moments like when Guts is with the new team and they're in the city and someone is talking about the Band of the Hawk and the Captain of the Raiders, and Guts is sort-of-smirking and I've somehow devolved into a 12-year-old shouting "HOLY SHIT, GUTS IS SO AWESOME! TELL THEM GUTS!" but he doesn't.

Or when he's fighting Serpico among the pillars, and Serpico thinks that the pillars will keep Guts from swinging his sword, but HE FUCKING SWINGS THE DRAGONSLAYER through pillars like they weren't even there.

Or when that girl and her father help Guts in the wagon, and he tells them not to help him, and later the girl is running around naked, possessed by ghosts and Guts is forced to kill her.

Fuck, I remember watching the anime and only being semi-impressed until the episode where Guts kills 100 soldiers defending Caska and it was this moment where you're like: HOLY SHIT THIS GUY REALLY IS BADASS. HE ACTUALLY CAN DO SHIT INSTEAD OF PEOPLE TALKING HIM UP ABOUT HOW GREAT HE IS. Which is what a lot of anime I had seen up to that point did. Then I got to the Eclipse and my head exploded.
