I was thinking of running a more simplified mafia game. 10 players (banning inactive ones from previous games) with only one of them being the murderer. There would be no special roles. Lynching will be decided by a majority vote.

Unanimous is too much, I think.
I like majority just because it makes things go quicker. Although with more active players 3/4 vote would probably be equivalent to 1/2 in a normal game. |

I'll play.
I don't think you'd ever get unanimous vote. |

So do you consider yourself an active participant in most Mafia games or what? |

Seika is pretty active.
I don't think you'll find 10 people that are insanely active. |

Rules:
The residents have 36 hours to reach a majority on who to lynch.
At then end of the 36 hour period if no majority is reached no one will be lynched.
Residents are allowed to abstain. Abstaining will count as a vote and if the majority abstain the day ends with no one being lynched.
After a resident has been lynched the assassin will have 12 hours to pick their target.
Residents who miss 2 consecutive votes will be killed. The assassin is still allowed to kill a target in the night when a resident is killed in this manner. Residents killed in this manner will be banned from subsequent games.
Residents who vote without saying anything else for 2 consecutive votes will not be allowed to vote during the subsequent vote. Only a majority of residents allowed to vote is required to lynch a resident. I will count explanation of a vote (in the same post as the vote) as discussion.
There is to be no discussion of the game outside of this thread. Ghosts are allowed a single ghost post then must post in a ghost thread. You may go into chat and tell people to go vote. If I get a whiff of any cheating those residents will be killed and banned from subsequent games.
Majority Required to lynch: 6/10
The Remaining Residents Are:
Seika
Theldorrin
Peter
Clotho: 6 votes (Servbot, Psaturn, Triple Life, Jason, Seika)
Triple Life
Psaturn
Servbot
Magic Juan
Jason
Cloacal Kiss
Abstain: 4 votes (Theldorrin, Cloacal Kiss, Magic Juan, Clotho)
Daytime begins at 11:15 pm (pacific time) and ends at 11:15 am on Saturday.

Derek says that we can abstain.
Numerically it seems that the assassin will have a better chance if we lynch someone on the first night.
Ie. assuming totally random selections, the probability of the assassin winning would be 9/10*7/8*5/6*3/4 =~ 49.2%
If we don't lynch anyone on the first day, the probability changes to this:
8/9*6/7*4/5*2/3 =~ 40.6%
Thus in the first case we have slightly more than a 50% chance of winning solely based on chance, and in the second case we have slightly less than a 60% chance of winning.
That's a big difference. |
