Yeah, I'm really ashamed of how BEHIND I am on the Fall and CAN. I didn't know SHIT about them for the longest time. And they're both brilliant.

I used to like Pavement, but Malkmus pisses me off more and more every day. First, fuck alt country. That's a genre of music that should not exist. And Malkmus is so SMARMY. Jesus, I can't take it. And it's just depressing how hard he tries to be THE UNDERACHEIVER.

Mark E. Smith strikes me as inbred, amphetamine-damaged British royalty, but songs like How I Wrote Elastic Man are about as far as you can hope to take rock lyrics. "The only thing that's real is waking up and rubbing your eyes." What a great line!

This is where I get too excited about something and make it seem as uncool as possible.

Oh yeah, hypocracy alert. After saying FUCK ALT COUNTRY, I cited The Fall's ALT COUNTRY song as an example of their greatness. It's IN YOUR FACE SARCASTIC AND SNEERING enough to where it isn't embarassing, which isn't the case for Pavement songs like "Range Life."

Have you listened to any Fall albums or just songs? And have you heard all of Pavement or what? I've only heard Slanted & Enchanted but I like it and it basically sounds like a really accessible Fall album with a human singing instead of Mark E. Smith.
