I downloaded a version of The Host which had subtitles in four languages, none of which were English. The monster was pretty cool.

Although I personally think it has MERIT as an actual GREAT FILM, if you approach it the same way you would approach a Metal Gear Solid game, you should be able to enjoy it.

Have you seen Lady Vengeance? Its by the same director (Part of a trilogy of Revenge movies I guess), And its just as good.

I like Kung Fu Hustle more than Shaolin Soccer.

Oldboy is by far the best of the Vengeance Trilogy. By leaps and bounds. Vinny, it inspired great rage in me, but I think that's what makes it so great. There is no catharsis! I've never felt so angry and so amazed at a movie before.

Tale of Two Sisters was a pretty scary Korean horror movie. Only movie in the last few years to get me to shout in surprise.

Infernal Affairs. Though now that The Departed exists as a fucking awesome movie, it diminishes the original.

As far as classics go:

-Master of the Flying Guillotine (Street Fighter rips off most its characters from this movie)
-Ninja Checkmate (GHOST FACE KILLER! OH NO! Also, don't let the name fool you, there are neither ninjas or chess in this movie)
-Crippled Masters (this movie has to be seen to be believed. Armless and legless kung-fu battles!)
-Drunken Master (YAAAAAAAAAAAA)

If you haven't seen Fist of Legend you should watch it, dubbed. Given Yogurtman's PP and the amazing voices it's retarded it isn't a bigger part of FTU lore.

As far as late-80s to mid-90s fast-paced Kung-Fu movies:

-Iron Monkey (the pole battle is awesome)
-Once Upon A Time in China (the ladder battle is awesome)
-Fist of Legend (GENERAL VEGETA! Plus, no wires!)
-Drunken Master 2 (this and the first are the best Jackie Chan movies)
-A Chinese Ghost Story

I have yet watched most of the Chow Yun-Fat/John Woo mob/hitmen movies. I own a lot of them, but never got around to watching them. I hear that the A Better Tomorrow series is very good.

A few more Chinese movies:

-A World Without Thieves (a fun/serious train-robbery movie from a few years back)
-In The Mood For Love (a little artsy-fartsy, but the music is good, the mood is excellent, and the character interactions are fantastic)
-A Chinese Odyessy 1&2 (live-action retelling of Journey to the West by comedian Stephen Chow of Shaolin Soccer and Kung Fu Hustle fame)

Kekexili (Tibetan film about antelope poachers and volunteers who try to stop them. Based on a true story and very very good.)

I thought long and hard, but I can't think of a single modern Japanese movie besides Ringu or Battle Royale that's worth watching. Spamdini knows of a few that should be, but I haven't seen them.

Ziatochi was a letdown.

There are plenty of classics that no one should miss. Most anything by Akira Kurosawa. The Samurai trilogy is pretty good is at times boring. Toshiro Mifune is the Clint Eastwood of Japan.

I can't decide which I prefer between Infernal Affairs and The Departed, and I really need to see the other Infernal Affairs movies.

The, uh, Death Note movies are fantastic.

Old Boy is definitely one of my favorite movies of all time. I didn't like Mr. Vengeance very month, and I still haven't watched Lady Vengeance even though I've had it for some months.
