They just released "Season 1" of DBZ on DVD, in a NEWLY REMASTERED EDITION. I didn't even know this was happening and I saw it at the mall today.

First of all, the concept of "seasons" doesn't really apply to DBZ, since it wasn't aired that way. They're just riding the "season box" DVD trend.

Second of all, the first set contains 39 episodes.

What the hell?

Episode 39 is that gay one where those children take over the spaceship, when Gohan et al are on the way to Namek.

If you're going by sagas, the Saiyan saga ends at 35. End of discussion! No "interpretation" about it. It sure as hell isn't episode 39.

But it gets a lot stupider.

For some reason, some ass at FUNimation decided to SPICE THINGS UP and they reformatted the picture to be 16:9.

You can't fucking do that. You can't just make something that was designed for 4:3 and make it 16:9. Widescreening something that was originally fulll screen is just as bad as full screening something that was originally widescreen.

This is totally ridiculous. Then they have the audacity to market it as "the way it was meant to be seen."

No shitheads, it was meant to be seen in 4:3.

Anyway, people who bought this are now saying that as much of 20% of the image is flat-out MISSING!

What the hell is wrong with FUNimation? Seriously, can they not do a single fucking thing right?

I have a sneaking suspicion they didn't digitally remaster all 291 episodes either.

It seems to me they're using that term as an underhanded marketing ploy.
