MAFIA III: Retribution |
|
|
This is MAFIA.
It takes place in the town of Pizza Paradise.
It is the story of two warring groups of players: townspeople and Mafia.
The two teams are out for one another's blood. Every Day, the group as a whole elect to kill one of their own in an attempt to reduce the number of Mafia. Every Night, the Mafia assemble in secret and pick off the townspeople, one at a time.
Townspeople earn victory when all the Mafia have been exterminated. Mafia earn victory when they are equal in number to the townspeople.
Days last for exactly forty-eight hours. As soon as a majority vote is reached in that time, the accused will be lynched immediately. If he is a townsperson, the sun immediately sets and Night begins. If he is a Mafia, the townspeople can continue to confer for the remainder of the forty-eight hours, and potentially kill another with a majority vote. There is no limit to the amount of lynching the townspeople can do within the forty-eight hours, provided that they successfully lynch Mafia each time.
Once Day is over, Night begins. At this point, Mafia are able to deliberate and tell me which one of the townspeople they want to kill. Night has a time limit of twelve hours. If the Mafia reach a unanimous decision in that time, the victim is killed and Day begins. If there is no unanimous decision, a victim with a majority vote will die. If there is no majority vote, no one will die. Any Mafia absent for two Nights will be killed.
Night ends precisely on the Mafia's decision. Any role dependent on contacting me at Night must reach me before then.
Once a player is dead, he is allowed one ghost post. Any other posts will be deleted immediately. The player's role will be revealed upon death.
No form of game-related communication between non-Mafia players is allowed. If I get a whiff of it, the player who does so will be immediately killed and banned from the next game. The same penalty applies to the use of screencaps and video. This also applies to dead players - if they are caught communicating they will be banned from the next game. They may post in the ghost thread, and that is all. This game is made to be deliberated in conversation during the Day - keep it that way and it will be fun.
These are the roles of the game:
Townsperson: The default role. There are no special powers given to this role by nature. They play to survive and have one vote each Day and sleep during the Night.
Mafia: The enemy. They are disguised amongst townspeople and of an untold number. They have one public vote during the Day as townspeople and a private vote together at Night. They are told immediately who the other Mafia are.
Psychic: One person will have the townsperson role of Psychic. Every Night, save a Night he is chosen by the Mafia to be killed, he may ask me privately the identity of one player and I will tell him. He will not find out if the person has a special role.
Psaros: This townsperson is told that he is the Psychic, but for every Night he requests an identity, I will flip a coin. Heads, he will learn the truth. Tails, the information will be wrong.
City Protector: Every Night, this townsperson may tell me one player he wishes to protect. If that player is targeted by any attack, he will be immune to it and survive. The City Protector may not protect himself, nor the same person on consecutive Nights.
Blackmailer: Every Night, this townsperson chooses one player and chooses who they will vote for the next Day (he must choose the target during the Night, not during the Day). That player will be contacted and told he has been blackmailed and who to vote for. If he does not comply with the voting decision or reveals publicly that he is being blackmailed, his identity will be revealed.
Gambler: This is a townsperson. Every Night, he may contact me and guess who he thinks will be dead by the start of the next Day. If he is correct (and only if the person dies, not just if that person is targeted), he will gain any one of three benefits, chosen randomly: protection from death for a Day and a Night, the ability to ask me one player's identity the following Night, or the ability to kill one player of his choice that Day. If he is wrong three times however, he will be killed.
Lovers: These two characters are lovers, and if one dies, the other has one free kill that he must take the following Day. If he hits a Mafia, he survives, but if it's a townsperson, he will also kill himself out of grief.
Heir: The Heir begins as a normal townsperson, but will receive the special role of the X person to die, if he had one, where X is a random number to be decided when giving roles but will not be told to the Heir. If the X person to die is Mafia, the Heir will join the Mafia. Multiple people may have this role.
Evil Soul: This is a townsperson, but if targeted by the Psychic, he will read as Mafia. He will still read as Mafia to the Psaros as well. He will not be told that he has an Evil Soul.
Vigilante: At the start of the game, the townsperson who is Vigilante Major has three bullets he may use to kill any person during the Night. If he hits a Mafia, he gains one more bullet (thus bringing him to four).
The Godfather: The role will go to a random Mafia. Every Night, he may choose one townsperson to convert to Mafia and will have a 25% chance of succeeding. The former townsperson will be converted to the Mafia and keep any special role he had. The Godfather may not choose the same person on consecutive Nights.
To sign-up, post to indicate that you are playing.

Re: MAFIA III: Retribution |

One week has passed since Maverick Soulliano named himself Mayor of Pizza Paradise, now a police state. The Mafia Terrorist killings have subsided with the murder of black hearted Magical Juan, leaving everyone satisfied.
Little do they know... retribution is coming... but for who?
1. Rice is... Franklin Shu, a sixteen year old chubby goth boy. Regularly seen with a powdered white face, mascara-laden eyes and painted black fingernails, he and his gay, goth friends can be seen hovering about town late at night, or greeting the sunset in the Pizza Paradise Cemetery. His fascination with the occult and killers has given him greater idols in Pizza Paradise's Mafia force than he had in even Seung-Hui Cho.
2. Servbot is... Caprician "Cappy" LeBron, twenty-two, has fallen ever more so into drugs in the last week and is hanging on by a thread at Pizza Paradise University. His skills on the basketball court are his only lifeline and even they are diminishing as LeBron can't go one single day without a hit of a crack pipe. He's completely broke and has now been kicked out of both his home, and the motel, as the weight of having been "blessed" with the sight of the Psaros takes its toll on his psyche.
3. My Head Hurts is... Jack Hilton, twenty-nine years old. A case worker assigned to the late Brett Carlyle, when he attempted suicide and was committed last year, Hilton took a shine to the young boy and was awestruck by the news of his death. Hilton now holds an embittered hatred of the frivolous vigilante, has quit his job at the hospital, and is slowly beginning to become a full-fledged stalker of Francis Betty, every day getting closer and closer to breaking into her empty dorm room, watching her friends as they walk the streets, or simply standing outside the walls of her holding cell in the police department and listening to her shout for freedom.
4. Magic Juan is... Steve McCool, freshly twenty and just out of boarding school in the rich, white Pizza Pavilion. A sunglasses-wearing rebellious youth and former best friend of Matt Hall, McCool refuses to answer to his real last name (McCollins). The only thing that has cost McCool a step in the last few years was hearing of his old friend's demise, and his first trip back to Pizza Paradise in three years was for Hall's funeral. McCool now plans on attending Pizza Paradise University, but will first take a year off to find himself (and settle a private bet that he can score with every girl in Pizza Paradise before the start of the school year).
5. Derek is... Zombie Michael Payne II, the formerly sixty year old and now ageless patriarch of the Payne family, Michael II clawed his way out of his grave two days after his burial thanks to a collaborative effort from Penno Voce and Miguel Sanchez Mauttie, gifted with the Special Touch. Zombie Michael II heaved his cantankerous, rotting body all the way back to Payne Manor and, frightening his servants and literally scaring his wife to death (buried on Sunday), he reassumed his usual position in his bed. He no longer speaks, nor will he make calls on his pristine ivory phone to serve as City Protector, after being so grieved by the mistake that cost Eve Danglenut her life, as well as his own.
6. Jay is... Jordan Fitzgerald, eighteen, who has sunk into depression after Brett Carlyle's death. One of the surviving members of the Mafia, Fitzgerald blames himself for the death of his idol, as the Vigilante was searching for him. Jordan hasn't been able to bring himself to touch a basketball, much to the chagrin of his domineering father. Every time Jordan looks at a ball, however, he remembers a time when he was twelve and was admiring the already all-star fourteen year old Brett Carlyle, and Carlyle tossed his basketball at Jordan, who kept it in his closet to this day. Every time, Jordan tears up a bit.
7. Yogurtman is... Mason Lanners, a thirty-eight year old cousin of Brian and Hal. Mason is something of a black sheep in the Lanners family, as he is the host of a nationally televised talk show, The Mason Lanners Show, which is known widely as one of the trashiest programs ever on television. Its usual topics consisting of unwed mothers, rebellious teenagers and deviant sex, has been interrupted twice now during the murder waves of Pizza Paradise, when Mason would hound his cousins for information on the killings so that he could air exploitative exposes on them. Neither of the Lanners brothers cooperated, and his frustration with them, as well as public commitments, kept him from attending either funeral.
8. Vito is... Maverick Soulliano, twenty-eight years old and acting as both Chief of Police and Mayor of Pizza Paradise, locking the city under martial law. Soulliano has controlled the town with an iron fist, reveling in his unprecedented power. The buzz around the community has it that Soulliano's next goal is to turn Pizza Paradise into its own independent fascist nation, with himself as dictator. This Mafia leader has quieted his teammates for the time being, feeling out his autocracy as he spends day after day without leaving the Mayor's Office.
9. Andre is... Trip Carlton, the twenty-three year old preppy black student and the last surviving Mafia. Wiling his days away as of late with a summer law internship, Trip's greatest challenge is keeping his mind off of the thrill of the kill. He is aware that he cannot, as a member of the Mafia, murder autonomously, but he yearns for Soulliano to change his stance so that he, Trip and Jay can continue their secret rampage upon Pizza Paradise. Every day's tedium is wearing greatly on Trip, who constantly drifts off into fantasy at work, thinking of gunning down his coworkers, mercilessly, ripping their hearts out, claiming victory.
10. Peter is... Solation Mk. II, of an indeterminate age. After Solation was killed by Francis Betty, his body was abducted, in parts, from the city morgue by "Mad" Hector Dorrin's elusive spider robots. He was brought back to Dorrin's basement, and reassembled, and improved. Now aware of his existence as robotic creation of Dorrin, Solation Mk. II has no semblance of a normal life, instead he continues Dorrin's work mechanically, without eating, without sleeping, without speaking, working ever harder to craft the perfect AI for the Mafia cause. No one is aware of Solation Mk. II's work.
11. Seika is... Keith Kickens, nineteen, and something of a nerd. A fiending otaku, Kickens has just returned to town from the annual Pizza Park Anime Convention (PPAC '08), miles away, to discover the horrors of what had happened in his absence. Dumping his various DVDs and action figures that he purchased under his bed, Kickens was shell-shocked at first, then began spending hours and hours on the Internet (even more than usual) studying the history of the Mafia Terrorists, other towns they have struck in the past, and the reconciliation of Pizza Paradise after the 2007 murders, which he had also missed due to PPAC '07.
12. Ace is... Josh Hank, the clear-eyed twenty-eight year old liberal college professor, has been considering hanging up his position at Pizza Paradise University. Maverick Soulliano's assumption of power has left Hank (the descendant of Holocaust victims and survivors) quite fearful, despite the apparent end to the murders after Magical Juan was slain. Nothing is sitting right with Hank lately, and a part of him wants to just pack and go far, far away in the middle of the night, gone without a trace, but another, louder part of him truly believes that he can save his town. Either way, he's writing a book about it.
13. MADali is... Najeed Obama, the twenty year old foreign exchange student. The photography major is never seen without his camera, yet although he was able to capture many candid shots of townspeople last week, he chose never to take the position of a Blackmailer, out of his principles. Obama lives strictly by his morals, and is trying his best to be of comfort the Carlyles, whom he's staying with, after the death of their son, but they frankly want nothing to do with him, choosing to simply ignore him until his time in America expires. Obama, dejected, has vowed to himself to find a way to end their suffering.
14. Psaturn is... Percy Saturn, twenty-four. Saturn spent the week in the hospital, recovering from the amputation of his right arm. At first, he and his fellow survivor Justin Clotho spent time discussing their mutual history, but soon Clotho had healed, and left Saturn alone. Whiling away day after day on his own, Saturn grew deeply depressed, until he was finally released. Spending one day growing accustomed to his new life as an amputee, Saturn returned promptly to the hospital, unshaven and unkempt, complaining of Phantom Limb Syndrome, and demanded to be admitted again.
15. Vinny is... Penno Voce, thirty years old. Driven mad by the insane murders of Pizza Paradise, and being informed by Miguel Sanchez Mauttie that he had somehow brought Michael Payne II back to life, and on a crystal meth binge, Voce threw himself off of Bruschetta Bridge to commit suicide one week ago. Ambulances arrived in time, however, and he was driven to the hospital in critical condition. After much time in surgery, the doctors were able to reconstruct much of him, though several of his vertebrae were compressed, so he is now even shorter. Currently, he is in a full-body cast, unable to speak or move, and only half-conscious, as the medical staff have thus far been incapable of determining how much brain function he has remaining.
16. Mike is... Richard Payne, the seventeen year old illegitimate son of Michael Payne II and a Taiwanese prostitute, has been severely disturbed since watching his father rise from his gwave. Richard desperately tried to speak to his dirt-covered father, but received only silence. Every night, Richard stands outside of Payne Manor, but the servants ignore him, until the Sun has risen and they find him asleep outside the gate. He hasn't been to his own home all week.
17. John Buis is... Jojo B., a thirty-two year old hospital clown. No one really enjoys his presence, but the hospital keeps him on (minimum wage) payroll just to fulfill certain state requirements. Jojo is unmarried, has no children, and never knew who his parents were, and with increasing frequency he puts a barrel of a gun in his mouth at night and cries before falling asleep.
18. Clotho is... Justin Clotho the Shadow, twenty-one. The scarred, ravaged young man has mostly been focused on staying alive in the past week, polishing his collection of knives and daggers, setting alarms and locks on all of his apartment's doors and windows. In fact, the only time he's left was to purchase an assortment of glass eyes like the villain in Last Action Hero. His right eye now changes by the day, as Clotho's isolation becomes more and more severe.
19. Morgan is... "Nightmare" Hattie Wilkinson, a forty-three year old homeless woman. Upon the destruction of Eve Danglenut's house, the police carved out her heart to ensure that she wasn't Mafia. After confirming it was red, but before it could be sent to evidence, one of Eve's surviving cats attacked the cop and stole the heart from him. The cat traveled to the nearest alley, where it consumed the heart instinctively, and magically gained the essence and soul of Eve Danglenut. Unfortunately, a minute later, "Nightmare" Hattie Wilkinson found the cat and, in her bum hunger, consumed it, thus gaining the essence and soul of the cat who had the essence and soul of Eve Danglenut.
20. Mautty is... Miguel Sanchez Mauttie, the thirty-two year old drug dealer and Zen master. Formally having achieved the Special Touch, he has renounced his inhuman power upon seeing how he was able to deny death to Michael Payne II, which he considered an evil thing to do. Though he still deals, Mauttie has now given himself fully to the Church, becoming one of only a handful of residents of Pizza Paradise to even come close to doing. He has traded Zen meditation for a love of Jesus Christ and hopes for forgiveness and donates almost all of his drug profits to the religious center.
21. Meems is... Francis Betty, the nineteen year old Vigilante. At the revealing of Betty's hand in the murders of Solation, Brett Carlyle and Roger K. Goodman, she was arrested, and is currently in a holding cell in the Pizza Paradise Police Department awaiting prosecution, though most people can tell that she'll be waiting there a long time. She is crying every day, and fiending for a night at a club, but otherwise remorseless.
22. Spamdini is... Harrison Lance Evans, a thirty-five year old campaign manager for Roger K. Goodman. Widely known as the whitest and most conservative member of Goodman's staff, Evans was crushed, and is only still in Pizza Paradise and not home in Pizza Pavilion in order to put pressure on the Mayor and police department to allow Evans, a certified attorney, to prosecute Francis Betty, and push for her execution.
23. Bounty is... Charles Weston, twenty-nine, the son of disgraced ex-cop and ex-Mafia Clay Weston. Charles Weston returned to Pizza Paradise upon learning his father was black-hearted to see it for himself. At Clay Weston's funeral, Charles made a well-publicized scene as he stormed out midway. His elderly mother tried to stop him, but instead they fought. Charles is now ashamed to be a Weston, and as has applied to join the PPPD, though Maverick Soulliano insists that no new recruits are being accepted at the moment, leaving Charles to dream of becoming some kind of vigilante, of restoring honor to the Weston name.
24. Theldorrin is... HD2, an unfinished prototypical AI that Solation Mk. II is working on. No one is aware of his existence, but he is already, even in his incomplete state, a being of inconceivable power.

I do feel like this assortment of roles is much more balanced, and that what really destroyed last game was Vinny and Theldorrin's AIM gestapo, but if you have specific suggestions, feel free. |

I agree with you about Beloved, and I'll remove it. Lovers I think is an excellent wildcard, and gives one more person the brief gift of autonomy, which I like. Evil Soul definitely helps balance the power of the Psychic.
If you think Gambler and Heir don't do anything, what's the problem? If so, they're effectively just townspeople. |
