I was sold a bill of goods that said this movie was an artistic triumph being suppressed by evil movie studios, but actually it's just kind of bad. The story is shitty and filled with reveals that are uncomfortable and emotionally confusing; the themes of "music" and "the quest" turn out, in different ways, not to matter at all; and it has the Maz Kanata voice acting problem, where all the voices are boring because if they're going to be shelling out McConaughey money then he god damn better sound exactly like McConaughey. I guess the animation is mostly fine even though there's some low framerate South Park shit going on with the mouths.
