There are lot of things that perturb and annoy me, but there are some that bring me almost to the point of disability.

This is a thread about your neuroses of that sort.

Here is maybe the worst of mine: I can't deal with the sound of people eating. If I'm sitting at a dinner table with people, there had better be music or a lot of ambient noise, because if I hear any chewing, slurping, or swishing sounds, I will die.

Before every meal with Lexy I go into my room, get my earbuds, put them into my ears, and sit down so that I won't be able to hear her CHEWING. I don't have to have music in them, the cord just dangles, and we can converse, but the earbuds muffle things just enough that the mouth sounds can't break through.

When I'm working with one of the guys I work for, who is a monster from hell when it comes to eating, it's literally agony. He likes to eat cereal, and anybody with my condition (maybe somebody else here has this problem?) knows that cereal is one of the worst foods when it comes to sound. Or it can potentially be, at least, if you're a god damned animal. When people SLURP the fucking milk out of the spoon with every bite, which is what he does, the sound of it is spine-melting.

He smacks his lips when he eats, he slurps every shit-fucking sip of his coffee, and it's just awful. I can't say anything because we don't have that kind of relationship. I want very badly to sneak my earbuds on when he's eating, but I know he'll see and then I'll have to come up with some explanation. So I just sit there and suffer.

I have a problem with odd numbers. Ive realized this mainly with volumes. I cant have it on odd numbers , with the exceptions of numbers that end with 5 such as 15, 25, etc.

This is definitely a thing with a lot of people, and I really wish I understood the evolutionary and/or psychological basis of it.

There are a ton of sounds that I find excruciating.

Haha. Reading the article about sensory defensiveness makes me think I have that, too.

I can't sleep in the same room as anybody because their cacophonous lung activity makes me want to stop their breathing all together.

Also, every other sound in existence. This is why I used to stay up all night and sleep all day. NO NOISE EVER.
