I mean, music can be a touchy subject. Let's get that right out of the way, right? Ha ha ha!
But seriously, what have you guys been listening to? I've been catching a lot of early Loudon Wainright the Third. I know, I know : he's kind of a ham sometimes! But that can be fun, right?
Also Syd Barrett is kind of /out there/, but I'll go ahead and say it - quite the songwriter. Rest in peace.
Anyway, hope everyone is having a nice day! Let me know if I can help with anything, alright? Don't hesitate.
Best,

Lana Del Rey is kinda cool.
Not the only thing I've been listening to, but I bought her CD on a whim and it's neat. |

That Metallica album from 2008 is insanely good, I've been listening to that constantly for years. |

I need to get into more Eno stuff, I only have like three albums and none of them are the **ambient** shit that he mostly does. I have Here Come the Warm Jets, Taking Tiger Mountain by Strategy, and Another Green World, but I listen to Taking Tiger Mountain the most.
MADali, Would you recommend Music for Airports as a first ambient album? |

Basically I want this thread to be like Computer Games and the anime thread and all the other unkillable monster threads that always get posts that I will never ever read.
Except for music! |

Maybe you should stop wasting precious time listening to music and play/watch more video games/anime. Those things also contain music. The best music. |

ALDP, I think you should only listen to Airport when you want to fall asleep or relax. Its not something you listen to and pay attention, because I imagine it would get boring. But I've listened to the first track, 1/1, which is 17 minutes long at night dozens of times. George Starostin didn't like it though. |

I'd like to try listening to Syd Barrett again. I had a couple of albums and really enjoyed a few of the songs but I couldn't get into the rest.
Does anyone listen to much current music? I want to get that Lana Del Rey album but I haven't gotten around to it. I don't have any conscious prejudice against new music but I just never listen to it. Can any of you bros help me out?
The Kinks are a really good band who released a ton of good albums during like a 6 year period and then they spent several decades releasing thoroughly embarrassing concept albums that are kind of cute in their own way but not a good introduction to the band. Maybe I'm completely wrong and their shitty middle period stuff would sound good to fresh ears! So if you're looking for a band to like, listen to anything by the Kinks! |

HMMMM. I couldn't order them, but maybe it would be something like
Rainy Day in June
Sunny Afternoon
I'm Not Like Everybody Else
20th Century Man
Waterloo Sunset
Autumn Almanac
Till the End of the Day
Big Sky
Animal Farm
People Take Pictures of Each Other
I'm missing albums on my computer though so there's a bunch of albums I'm not considering. Celluloid Heroes could easily replace some of the ones I listed. |

I think my favorite album is the Village Green Preservation Society. It has a very unique sound among their albums.
I guess a lot of their albums have unique sounds though... Nothing really sounds like Arthur or Muswell Hillbillies. So I suppose my point is that I like the unique sound of Village Green the most. |

Hey, does anyone know what Man Man is?
Lexy likes that band.
I'm curious if anyone else does.
As for me, I don't listen to music, or watch TV, or movies, or play any video games (except classic arcade games).
I pretty much just read things on the Internet. |

I think Village Green is my favorite album as well because it has almost no songs I don't like. But I also really like Muswell Hillbillies. |

Man Man are the pride of Philadelphia! Here's a song they did about a female Jack the Ripper: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M7uW3EWinTk
As for other recent bands, some of the popular indie guys I think are very good (Fleet Foxes, Bon Iver, Antony & The Johnsons). Frank Ocean, Janel Monae and Big Boi are doing funky things with r&b and hip-hop that I like a lot. I don't have as much time to go hunting for stuff that isn't at least mildly easy to get. o well
I've been listening to a lot of dance punk for the past year because I need energy during the day. |

Four years back when I wanted to move to Iran, I downloaded top 50 albums as chosen by Pitchfork for, I think, five years, and I havent even gone through one year fully.
I listen to Iranian underground rock a lot. |

Can someone explain the appeal of Lana Del Rey to me without mentioning that she's a babe? I just listened to her second album and it didn't really do anything for me at all. Dumb teenage melodrama lyrics, forgettable choruses, and just awful, awful singing. She comes off as a try-hard who's never faced any hardships but only wants to write about hardships.
I've been listening to this Canadian band called PUP. They make catchy melodic punk rock music. I still listen to a lot of punk rock.
No one's gonna agree with me about this, but I actually think RiFF RAFF's new album is fantastic and that his dumb lyrics betray a surprising emotional depth.
Anyone watch that show The Leftovers? It's okay. Some German dude named Max Richter composed the show's soundtrack, and I find that listening to his 2002 album Memoryhouse really helps me focus while I'm at work.
I just got Court and Spark by Joni Mitchell on vinyl, and that album is fucking great. "Free Man in Paris" is probably my favorite song. Sidenote: The wikipedia page for that song is the most ridiculously over-detailed page for a song I've ever seen. "The time signature is 4/4 except the compound quintuple meter intro counted as 15/8 or simply 2 bars of 6/8 plus 3 eighth notes." Shut up nerd! |
