Even though I'm being CHEEKY, I honestly don't know who Mandelbrot is, and could not off of the top of my head define "fractals" (though obviously I know that it's some math thing and that I've most likely even done shit with it in school).

Here's what pisses me off about math.

Math, like politics, is one of those hoity-toity areas of knowledge, where if you don't know about it, people judge you.

This is true even though for practical/life purposes, math is no different than classical music or surfing or knitting or beer-making or computer programming or guitar playing or any other specialized pursuit that should NOT be counted among the things that make up a lowest-common-denominator education.

But it's not treated that way. For some reason, school fucking hammers people over the head with mandatory math.

It is unbelievable the amount of math they FORCE people to learn in primary schools, when they could be teaching shit of actual practical use.

Other than arithmetic, math is useless, unless you're specifically using it for something in your life. Yet an enormous amount of time is wasted on it in general education, for reasons I can't fucking fathom. I have not EVER used 90% of the math I learned in school.

Math is something where there's no ACTUAL crime in being ignorant, but people treat it like it is. If you don't know what fractals are, they act like you can't write or something.

So that's what I hate about math.

Well Chris, read this long sentence; If just a little more people were even competent at liberal arts math level, we would never vote for some of these republican fucktards that claim to understand what's good for the economy under a platform that was obviously targeting the mathematically ignorant.

I'm willing to bet that countries with higher math scores have better infrastructure too. But, I'm just talking out of my ass, as well.
