I decided to remain ignorant of this until about 10 minutes ago, and in that 10 minutes, I pretty much saw enough.

In general, day time talk shows are hosted by some random idiot who pretends to be a psychologist or something and interviews really poor, fucked up people who conform readily to racial stereotypes (or, more accurately, actors portraying these people).

There is always some theme like, "I'm cheating on my wife" or "My adolescent children get arrested a lot" or "My two year old is extremely overweight." These shows are marketed to the same crowd as soap operas: stay-at-home spouses, retired people, and others who manage to not have a job but still have a TV somehow.

Night time talk shows are generally hosted by stand-up comedians who open with a routine about the day's headlines, do a series of skits, and then interview celebrities.

There are a few exceptions to this rule. Usually, there is at least one day time talk show that is more in line with the conventions of a night time talk show, like Ellen Degeneres' current show or Rosie O'donnel's mid 1990s show (they are almost always hosted by lesbians).

The night time talk show format is beginning to become dated in the Internet age. There is less of a market for people who just want to see celebrities and hear very repetitive humor. This is most likely due to more intricate and personalized mass communications. The pool of A-list celebrities whom everybody wants to see is much smaller than it was in the late night talk show's heyday. This has given rise to shows like The Daily Show and The Colbert Report on cable that offer a talk-show-like format for more specialized interests.

The current phenomenon undertaking late night network television talk shows is nothing short of a hysterical comedy of errors. When NBC transitioned Conan Obrien into Jay Leno's old spot, putting him up against David Letterman, David Letterman promptly got into a sex scandal and destroyed Conan in the ratings war.

Realizing that the only way to attract a mass audience at this point is to have backstage drama spill onto the set, NBC decided to fuck over Conan O'brien, whose ratings have more than doubled as a result.

In the coming months, look for Craig Ferguson to get a sex change operation or Jimmy Fallon to get caught trafficking underage prostitutes.

If I can be real real real...

I want to donate money to the Haiti relief fund.

But I seem to remember a few years ago, there was a natural disaster in my own neck of the woods that tore the place up quite a bit. And then there was this SCANDAL about FRAUDULENT relief funds.

All this TEXT 15155 TO WHATEVER NUMBER business sounds like a load of bullshit!

Anyway, if anybody has any ideas on seemingly credible relief funds, I'm all ears.
