The bank robbery climaxed atop the roof, three stories above the street where police sirens wailed

The robber had panicked himself into a corner, dragging the pretty young clerk backwards by her stomach through the roof escape. She cried and wailed amidst shouts of "Shut up!" as the robber, not much older than his detained, held the barrel of his gun to her temple as his eyes darted from one officer to another. They hurriedly took position from the roof's stairway, one by one, and their pistols wavered trying to attain a clear shot.

"Fuck off!" the robber bellowed, tightening his grip on the girl. "It wasn't meant to come to this!" Tears steamed down his cheek as his reality finally collapsed around him. His eyes tightened as he pressured the gun against her cheek.

"Bobby!"

He eyes snapped open. A friend from childhood was staring at him, wearing the blue uniform.

"Craig! Man, I don't know! Shit just went wrong!" Bobby's face flushed and tears dripped down his chin, now, but the grip on his simpering hostage never abated, his gun still drawn.

Craig lowered his gun, signaled the men to stand down and stepped towards Bobby.

"Bobby, I know things in this life are tough, and you might have little to depend upon - maybe not even yourself! But we are all in this together man, and I believe in humanity, I believe in me... I believe in you."

Bobby's eyes became as slits and his mouth went agape.

"So believe in me, Bobby. Believe in me, who believes in you!"

Two years later Craig sits in a bar, drunkenly recanting how his finger slipped on his trigger before everyone just started shooting.

"Fuggin... blood on my hands man... fuggin... Bobbay... the girl... two officasz..."
