I voted for the second one, but after saying it to myself a lot, there IS a little something in between "gross" and "rees," but it's not any kind of definite "ER" sound.

The way I say it sounds most like "gross-uh-rees" or "gross-ah-rees," with the middle part not really being strongly pronounced, but more of a smooth bridge between the two parts.

Me and the Mrs. (well, Ms.), have decided that it is pronounced the first way, and that it can't just be an accent thing, because us and you are all westerners.

We are going to ask my in-laws about it though, although one of them is a Canadian.
