50 cents came to the Reading Rock Festival in last year and he set up a massive video screen behind him with images of womanising, debauchery, gangs shooting bullets at each other and all that other cool stuff, he then started boasting about how proud he was to have been shot several times in the face and torso... he then started talking, thats right! no music or anything just this kind of rhythmic garbage coming out of his mouth about how he liked to treat girls as objects. After having seen top class bands like the darkness, and ash playing electrifying guitar solos, combined with witty emotive lyrics that tugged at their heart strings, and of course justin hawkins reaching notes only dogs could hear, this rubbish was a bit of a let down. so we picked up plastic bottles and pelted him.
But incredibly 50 cents, just played on through the barrage, as plastic skidded across the stage all around he kept going, he knew his material was good, he knew the word 'club' rhymed with 'love' (and 'buzz'), he'd been shot 9 times he could cope with being bottled... well no, actually he just ran off back to his hotel after 25 minutes to the sound of 52,000 people booing.
As legendary frontman morrisey of the smiths (who won't be completely forgotten in 10 years time, or in fact ever) stood up to sing "There Is A Light That Never Goes Out" to remind the crowd that there is still such thing as, well, music left in the world - they couldn't help but feel the old adage creep into mind - 'you can't spell crap without rap'... maybe harsh but on a day like this pretty much unarguable.

of course back then 50 cents hadn't released candy shop : -- a brilliant song that continues the theme of a candy store right the way through, and not just in the chorus... no wait that would require lyrical skill rather than a six pack
but it definitely influenced me to want to lick his lollypop, oh boy
