So we've finally started doing radar stuff in my ATC class, and it's kind of hard (I didn't prepare enough for it either, which didn't help). Lining up the airplanes with the runway at the correct angle is very difficult!

Soccer season finally ended and I played some pickup for the first time in ages on Friday.

It's amazing, because playing at some sort of collegiate level really is like training at 1000x gravity, because I had played with those guys before and I always did well, but I absolutely obliterated them this time.

Your phraseology has to be absolutely spot-on, which I'm struggling with at the moment. Also, you're generally juggling multiple planes at once and you have to coordinate everything with other controllers (each person has their own designated space).

The big thing, though, is that the final approach course intercept heading can't be greater than 30 degrees.

I only got to do it for about 15 minutes, and I didn't land a single plane and I had no idea what I was doing.

I wonder if there are any manga about being an Air Traffic Controller. If so you should seek them out to gain confidence.

It's a lot easier being a pseudo-pilot, because you just take instructions from the controllers, input them into the computer, and then pretty much repeat what was said in an abbreviated form to confirm that you've done what you were told (via radio, of course).

I've been playing a lot of ADOM lately.

I made an orc barbarian and raced to level 10, but I have no idea how to play this character now, because I can't read, so I'm not sure how I'm supposed to identify items.

It would make sense if you could bring the stuff to a town and have somebody literate identify them for you.

I guess I could cheat and copy my save file and then QUIT and look at my items, but that feels cheap and dirty.
