Well, this is another torrent post, so you're going to need a torrent client.
Refer to my Anime thread for a torrent client. Or, Google Utorrent!

This is a leak of the game Supreme Commander. It will need a pretty badass computer to be able to run it, but, I think it's manageable other wise.
This is for those of you who like rts, but want more than the demo. I actually plan to buy the game for multi player capability. But, in the meanwhile...

It seems like a lot of modern game designers don't understand that you have to make it easy to differentiate between the background, and the elements that you're interacting with.
So yes, I was being 100% sincere that those are bad graphics.
I think a big problem is the perspective, though. I'm not sure whether some of those dots are just smaller units because of the perspective, or cacti or something. |

I disagree Theldorin. Games don't need to be like old shitty cartoons where it's obvious what's the background and what's going to move. Making the two seemless is a nice touch as long as it doesn't affect the gameplay in anyway. Besides these are clearly shitty camera angles designed to make the screenshots look neat, and no one in their right mind would play from these perspectives anyway. |

Being unable to distinguish between the background fluff and actual components of the game always distracts from gameplay.
There are things that can alleviate it, like having your units be animated even when they're standing still, since motion attracts your attention, but I suspect they'll start making background trees sway in the wind, and maybe draw in tumbleweeds and other bullshit.
Making a game look like you're flying a few hundred feet overhead in a helicopter as you give orders to the units below is far from the ideal interface. |

Overhead perspective is at the moment the ideal camera view for RTS, and that's not likely to change anytime soon.
IN general it's not difficult to distinguish between robots with lasers and a desert. |

That's certainly not true of this game, based on the first screenshot.
Not only are there countless things on there that are maybe scenery, but you can't quite be sure, but a lot of the things that aren't scenery look very similar, so you can't immediately grasp what type of unit they are. That may be solely because of the prespective, and how far they're zoomed out, but they have no one but themselves to blame for using that particular screenshot to sell their game.
Spore changes the look of things when you zoom out precisely because reality is such a horrible interface. |

Game Screenshots are always worthless anyway. In general they're doctored or from a retarded perspective. I imagine with a traditional view there's no issue at all with this game, and really the only screenshot where it's a problem is the top one. |

Well, the third one would be basically unplayable using a point and click interface.
I'm not sure about the second one. I'm guessing it's zoomed in on that spot in the first one? Is the only difference between your units and the enemies that tiny bit of red? And the difference between a living enemy and a dead one is that the living one is dark grey, rather than black? |

That is a good point. A dead unit in this case should be wreckage. It shouldn't just be a blackened out version of the original unit. That's just being fucking lazy there. |

I like the macro image overhead view, it gives you a large area to select units on a small screen. basically eliminating micro management on the battlefield and making squads easier to move at the same time. |

Units of a similar type should automatically group together into squads in these types of games. |

That is true.
I'd like my squads to be indicated somehow, though. Or there should be a way to directly access them.
I'm guessing there's a static interface, and that it's not all context sensitive? |

haha, you read my mind, I was going to suggest something like hotkeying squads or units.
I havn't fully explored the game, tho, so I can neither confirm nor deny that this isn't a possibility. |
